ionships to ensure the right solution, for the right client at an attractive return on investment. Solanterns is an initiative of Renewable Energy Ventures, distributing solar powered lanterns to the 30 million Kenyans who do not have access to electricity, and current use kerosene lanterns as a source of light. The problems with kerosene lanterns are well documented including repiratory illnesses for women and children due to indoor air pollution, the very high fire hazard that these lanterns pose, the high costs of purchasing kerosene, the poor light quality that negatively affects children doing their homework in the evenings. And yet, viable and affordable solutions exist in the market today that would enable even the poorest Kenyans to have clean, bright, reliable and affordable lighting. This realization led us to launch Solanterns. Solanterns distributes solar lanterns to rural and peri-urban households, while also securing financing for the lantern purchases. In addition, Solanterns works with local entrepreneurs, who purchase lanterns and then rent them out on a nightly basis to the local community.
