🔥 Most people think all fire extinguishers do the same job — but that’s exactly how accidents happen.
On site (and even at home), the type of extinguisher you grab can either save the day… or make the fire explode in your face. Literally.
Here’s the no-nonsense breakdown every professional should know:
🚨 THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER CHEAT SHEET — KNOW IT OR RISK IT
🔴 WATER (Red Label)
For: Class A — wood, paper, textiles, rubbish
Never use on: Electrical, flammable liquids, cooking oils
Why: It spreads the fire and can shock you.
Bottom line: If it sparks or drips oil — keep water out of it.
🟡 FOAM (Cream Label)
For: Class A + flammable liquids
Never use on: Electrical fires
Why: Conducts electricity — dangerous.
Bottom line: Great for fuel spills, terrible for live wires.
🟨 WET CHEMICAL (Yellow Label)
For: Class A–F — wood, paper, textiles, cooking oils/fats
Never use on: Electrical fires
Warning: Corrosive; protect your eyes
Bottom line: This is your “kitchen hero,” not something you spray on a generator.
⚫ CO₂ / CARBON DIOXIDE (Black Label)
For: Electrical fires + flammable liquids
Safe on: Class A in some cases
Bonus: No residue
Bottom line: If it’s sparking, humming, or wired — reach for CO₂.
🔥 DRY CHEMICAL POWDER (Blue Label)
For: Class A, B, C + Electrical (E) + some F fires
Best for: Cars, boats, workshops, plants, kitchens, general household
Why we love it: Versatile, fast knockdown
Bottom line: The “Swiss Army Knife” of extinguishers.
🧠 THE GOLDEN RULE
⭐ Right extinguisher, right fire — or you turn a small problem into a disaster.
Most fire emergencies go wrong not because the extinguisher wasn’t there…
…but because the wrong one was used.
