www.kwangukwako.com Homes in these areas are mostly made of iron sheets around a timber bush pole frame. They are often poorly built, insecure and in extremely cramped overpopulated environments. These s

tructures are extremely susceptible to fire hazards, the results of which can be devastating. In 2011, in Nairobi slums, 25,000 people lost their homes and only possessions to fire in just 3 months. We present an innovative solution to this issue, not only providing safety from fire hazards, but also incorporating socio-economic sustainability into our model. Our houses are built from reinforced precast concrete panels made by local artisans within the target community, providing sustainable livelihoods to those most in need.
