Earlier today, members of Save Earth Liberia Inc. attended the High-level Meeting on Liberia's Revised Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Implementation Plan Launch & Preparatory Activities for Article 6 Readiness at the Paynesville City Hall outside Monrovia.

Many Dignitaries, Government Officials, and Partners of the Liberian Government and EPA were present at the meeting and they reaffirmed their commitments towards contributing to the fight against Climate Change in Liberia and the world at large through Climate Action.

We at SEL remain committed to working with the Environmental Protection Agency - EPA, Conservation International and other Organizations in Liberia to work towards ensuring that the aim of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and it's implementation are achieved.

About 0.1 percent of the ocean’s floor is covered in lanky green flowering plants known as seagrasses.

Their often-sprawling meadows purify ocean water, shelter fish, and provide food for thousands of marine species. But seagrass habitats have been in decline since 1930, with 7 percent of them disappearing each year, according to (UNEP) research.

Along with being a haven for marine life, seagrass sediment is one of the planet’s most efficient carbon stores and prevents it from becoming a planet-warming greenhouse gas.

about the global environment and how can we drive action toward a healthy planet for the prosperity of all.

1. Human activities have modified 77 percent of the land (excluding Antarctica) and 87 percent of the ocean.

2. More than 2 billion hectares of land are degraded due to overuse or mismanagement.

3. One million species face extinction.

4. Air pollution, the greatest environmental threat to public health globally, accounts for an estimated 7 million premature deaths every year.

5. 11 million metric tons of plastic waste enter our ocean every year. At the same time, we produce 50 million tons of e-waste.

6. The climate crisis is causing more frequent extreme weather events such as storms and droughts, which worsen food and water scarcity.

How can we accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals to achieve a healthy planet which is essential for social and economic progress, well-being, and resilience?

Great news for Liberia as we have been selected along with other countries to benefit from the $ 43 million funds from the GEF to halt and reverse species loss.

With global biodiversity loss at dangerous levels, 139 countries have received a lifeline to fast-track efforts to conserve, protect and restore species and ecosystems as soon as a new global accord currently under negotiation is approved.

The new financing from the Global Environment Facility, totaling $43 million, will give developing countries the means to quickly put the anticipated Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework into practice and make headway towards the goal of halting and reversing species loss this decade.

Supported by technical expertise from the (UNDP) and (UNEP), the participating countries will work to analyze and align their national policies, targets, finance, and monitoring systems to take effective action on global threats to biodiversity.

As we celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity, this commitment shows that the world is united in recognizing the urgent need to end the destruction of nature and the loss of the services it provides.

Historic pledge on plastics pollution reached in Nairobi.

The UN has agreed to start negotiating the first ever global treaty to tackle the issue of plastic pollution.

After week-long talks at the UN Environment Assembly in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, nearly 200 member states agreed to create an inter-governmental committee to come up with a legally binding plastics treaty by 2024.

"The world should care about plastic waste because it is a universal problem - otherwise we will all be drowned [by it]," says Rwanda's Environment Minister, Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamariya.

"Plastic does not degrade and the waste is increasing minute by minute... our oceans, river, seas have more plastic waste than fish.

Did you know that it requires seven to eight trees to provide enough oxygen for just one person per year.

A human breathes about 9.5 tons of air in a year, but oxygen only makes up about 23 percent of that air, by mass, and we only extract a little over a third of the oxygen from each breath. That works out to a total of about 740kg of oxygen per year. This is about seven or eight trees' worth.
