Underground section of a seawater pipeline as part of a cooling system for a refinery.

Internal corrosion of pipeline and initial stages of weld degradation has been observed.

The customer wanted to reinforce the pipeline and extend its service life. Since the pipeline is critical to the operation of certain processes within the refinery, they did not want to shut it down.

Additionally, because the pipeline is located underground in a difficult to access area, abrasive blasting was not possible.

The qualification of the Belzona SuperWrap II system for application to surfaces prepared using power tools was therefore crucial to carrying out this repair.

Exhaust manifold piping.

Due to severe corrosion these pipes were leaking exhaust gases in an area close to personell gangways creating a safety hazard. Temperatures in the area reached 200 C.

Application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflet VPF-11. A thin plate was bonded to cover the defect area and to prevent ingress of product during application. Two consecutive layers of Belzona 1511 HT Metal reinforced with Belzona 9341 were applied leaving a solid composite wrap of 20mm thickness.

Due to exhaust leaks close to personell gangways, the customer required a fast and effective solution to prevent the gases escaping until the next planned shut-down. The in-situ nature of the Belzona repair allowed this to be done quickly and efficiently saving the customer an unplanned shut-down to replace the pipe.

The pipeline was greatly corroded (mainly external corrosion) which led to the formation of a live leak at a weld.

The pipeline could not be shutoff therefore grit blasting was not allowed. Surface preparation was therefore done using a Belt Sander & Grinder. The leak was plugged using Belzona 1212 and any pitting rebuilt using Belzona 1161 due to its surface tolerance prior to Belzona SuperWrap II being applied. The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflet VPF-11.

The application was carried out whilst the pipeline was in service therefore eliminating any downtime.

The tube sheet and end cover of the chiller units experienced severe corrosion, resulting in a significant decline in efficiency. Additionally, the wear around the gasket seals prevented a proper seal, further impacting the chiller's performance.

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona Know-How System Leaflets HEX-1 and HEX-2, ensuring compliance with industry best practices for corrosion protection and equipment longevity. The surface was grit blasted and thoroughly cleaned. Plastic/rubber plugs were inserted during surface preparation to prevent media from entering the tubes. These plugs were then removed and reapplied before the product application. Belzona 1121 (Super XL-Metal) was used to rebuild and resurface the worn areas, while Belzona 5821 was applied as a two-coat system to protect the tube sheet and end cover from corrosion and erosion.

The customer benefited from a proven, high-performance solution that minimized downtime and enhanced the longevity of their equipment. The durability and reliability of Belzona products also contributed to lower maintenance costs over time, making it a cost-effective choice for their ongoing operational requirements.

Thruster body repair.

Severe wear on the thruster body caused by prolonged exposure to seawater.

The repair was completed in accordance with the Belzona Know-How System Leaflet SOS-2.

The following Belzona products were used for this repair:

➡️ Belzona 1111: A two-component paste grade system for repairing and rebuilding machinery and equipment, for structural bonding, and creating irregular load bearing shims with good electrical insulation properties.
➡️ Belzona 1321: A two-component fluid grade system for protecting immersed surfaces suffering from erosion-corrosion at operating temperatures up to 140 °F (60 °C), for structural bonding, and for creating irregular load bearing shims with good electrical insulation properties.

Rubber expansion bellows on water circulation pipes at a wastewater treatment plant.

These rubber wastewater expansion bellows were being weathered by UV and exposure resulting in cracking.

Surface prep was done with coarse emery cloth and blown clean. Belzona 2911 was applied and allowed to dry as per the IFU. Belzona 2221 was mixed and the cracks filled and the entire surface wetted out with a brush. Then the Belzona 9341 was wrapped around the bellows and pulled tight until the 2221 squeezed through the reinforcement tape and the remaining 2221 was applied by brush to overcoat and seal in the reinforcement tape.

A key advantage of this solution is that the repair was completed in less than one hour, with the system remaining fully operational throughout the entire process.

This water pipe was leaking due to antibacterial agents present in the water damaging the substrate and causing corrosion pitting.

The pipe was manually prepared using an MBX and degreased with Belzona 9111. The pipe was then consolidated using Belzona 1111 and 9341 (3 passes). Belzona 1321 was finally used on top of the repair to avoid any porosity and give a good smooth finish.

Something sharp impacted these fenders hard enough to rip and tear through the 1.5" heavy duty rubber. This would allow water to saturate the foam core which in turn will cause the fender to sink rather than float.

The application was carried out in accordance with Belzona System Leaflet SOS-12. First, all loose and damaged areas and pieces were removed. The surface was then prepared with an MBX Bristleblaster to a nice rough "feathery" finish. Belzona 2911 was then applied to the prepped area and then taped off to provide clean lines for the repair. Belzona 2111 was mixed, 500 gr unit at a time, and allowed to cure as per the Instructions For Use. It was then worked into the surface and built up to bring it back to its original form. Finally, each location was overlaid with Belzona 9341 to give the repair some added strength. The tape was removed and the application was smoothed by a Belzona applicator.
