Job Opening: Chemical Waste Disposal Engineer
Job Summary:
The Chemical Waste Disposal Engineer is responsible for managing the collection, treatment, and disposal of hazardous chemical waste following local environmental regulations. This role involves ensuring the safe handling of chemical by-products, minimizing environmental impact, and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Waste Management & Disposal:
Design and implement processes for the safe disposal, recycling, or treatment of hazardous chemical waste.
Classify, label, and store chemical waste in compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., EPA, OSHA, RCRA).
Oversee the transportation and off-site disposal of chemical waste through approved vendors.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure adherence to all environmental regulations and guidelines related to chemical waste management.
Maintain detailed documentation for audits and inspections.
Risk Assessment & Safety:
Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses related to chemical waste processes.
Develop safety procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
Train personnel in chemical safety and emergency response procedures.
Process Optimization:
Identify opportunities to reduce chemical waste generation through process improvements or substitution of hazardous substances.
Monitor and improve waste handling processes for cost-efficiency and environmental impact reduction.
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of waste generation, storage, treatment, and disposal activities.
Prepare technical reports, permits, and documentation required for compliance and internal reporting.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in chemical waste management, environmental engineering, or a related role. Experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting preferred.
Skills:
Strong understanding of hazardous, nonhazardous materials and chemical properties.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proficiency in environmental management systems and relevant software tools.
Work Environment:
Industrial and laboratory settings.
Exposure to hazardous chemicals requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
May involve fieldwork, inspections, and coordination with waste disposal facilities.
