A big congratulations to Dr Sanda for the successful defense of her veterinary thesis! 👏👏👏

🐔📊 Her research focused on the epidemiology of toxoplasmosis in broiler and local chickens in the Analamanga and Atsinanana regions of Madagascar 🇲🇬🐓 — an important contribution to both animal health and zoonotic disease understanding 🦠⚠️

During her academic journey, she also completed an internship at Mahaliana 🧪🔬, where she gained valuable hands-on experience in veterinary diagnostics, research, and field-based work 🌿📚🐾

👨‍⚕️🌿 Dr. Olivier – Field Veterinarian & Site Manager 🦎🐦🐕🐒

Dr. Olivier supports our field expeditions across Madagascar 🇲🇬, including wildlife capture, sample collection 🧪, and coordination of field operations, especially in Betampona Natural Reserve 🌳. He also collaborates with local communities and authorities to promote conservation efforts 🌍.

🇺🇸 Currently, he is participating in professional trainings at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, East Carolina University, and the Duke Lemur Center to strengthen his expertise in wildlife medicine, conservation, and research 🔬🐾.

We are delighted to welcome the team from IQLS (Integrated Quality Laboratory Services) to Mahaliana last week! 🤝🔬

Their visit focuses on discussing how to strengthen laboratory quality 🧪📊, biosafety and security 🔒🛡️, and overall management systems ⚙️✅.

Together, we are working to:
👉assess our current practices
👉identify areas for improvement 📈, and
👉reinforce high standards in research and diagnostics in support of disease surveillance and One Health research in Madagascar 🌍🐾👩‍⚕️.

In Madagascar 🇲🇬, veterinarians play a critical role at the interface of animal 🐾, human 🧑‍🤝‍🧑, and environmental 🌿 health. From protecting livestock 🐓🐖 and companion animals 🐹🦊to monitoring wildlife 🐒 health and preventing zoonotic diseases 🦠, they play a frontline role in protecting communities, strengthening food security, and preventing disease outbreaks🏥.

At Mahaliana 🧪🔬, our veterinary team works across field 🌾 and laboratory 🧫 settings to conduct surveillance of zoonotic diseases, generating knowledge that supports early detection 🚨, prevention 🛡️, and response to emerging health threats.

This is the first study to completely sequence the mitochondrial DNA🧬🧬 of these rats.

As part of our ongoing team highlights, we are pleased to feature Dr. Santatra Randrianarisoa, wildlife veterinarian 🐾 and Lab Manager at Mahaliana 🔬.

His work focuses on wildlife health, zoonotic diseases, and One Health research in Madagascar 🇲🇬. Through field research 🌳, laboratory innovation 🧪, and collaboration with local and international partners 🤝, he continues to contribute to advancing scientific knowledge and supporting conservation medicine and public health efforts across the country.

We are proud to have Dr. Santatra as part of the Mahaliana team, helping strengthen research capacity and scientific innovation in Madagascar 🌍.
