What an unforgettable finale to Archivisit!

We wrapped up our final day at the breathtaking Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, hosted by the visionary team at Mizzi Studio.

Having designed iconic, nature-inspired spaces on these historic grounds—including the award-winning Kew Gardens Family Kitchen—the Mizzi team was the perfect guide. Led by Matthew Chilton and Harry Rostron, our students explored the gardens, absorbing how cutting-edge architecture can harmoniously blend with the natural world.

Following the tour, the students put inspiration into action during a hands-on design workshop. Channelling the organic forms and complex geometries they had just witnessed, everyone dove into developing their own parti sketches for a small nature-inspired pavilion. It was incredible to see these budding architects translate ecological principles into structural concepts!

Afternoon Update: Inside the Tech Labs at UCL Here East!

Our afternoon visit took us to the cutting-edge UCL Campus at Here East, where we were generously hosted by Simone Bonavia and Head of Department Edward Bennett.

The group was treated to an exclusive tour of the campus’s highly technical labs, getting a firsthand look at how students and researchers utilize advanced daylight simulators, as well as complex thermal and acoustics modeling. Seeing these state-of-the-art tools in action provided incredible insight into the future of environmental design and architectural research.

After wrapping up an inspiring tour, the students spent a brilliant evening exploring the vibrant Olympic Park neighborhood. The highlight of the night was visiting the newly crowned, award-winning V&A East Storehouse (Museum of the Year 2026 finalist!), where they got to experience its radical, behind-the-scenes look at art and design. A massive thank you to Simone and Edward for hosting us and making this an unforgettable afternoon!

Archivisit Week continues; LOM & EOC

Today's visit took us to LOM international architects, also involved in Maltese projects like Manoel Island, MIDI, and Project Landmark. Joined by global structural and facade engineers EOC, the presentation offered students an incredible deep dive into high-level design.

The visit culminated in a hands-on workshop challenging students to design a new office building facade by balancing community culture, environmental sustainability, structural detailing, and materiality.

A huge thank you to Ben Taylor from LOM and Maria Dimas from EOC for making this fantastic visit possible.

Archivisit has officially surpassed the halfway mark!

Our latest stop brought us to the incredible studios of Morris & Company and Fardaa—two outstanding architectural practices renowned for their award-winning, small-to-medium-scale projects.

A true highlight of the visit was exploring their model workshop, where craftsmanship meets creativity. The firm owners generously took the time to dive into their respective projects, giving our students an invaluable, behind-the-scenes look at real-world design and practice.

We were also incredibly inspired by Elena Gauci, who shared her fascinating journey all the way from Malta to the UK construction industry, alongside her experience working as a design tutor at Kingston University. Her story is a testament to where passion and dedication can take you! A massive thank you to both teams for hosting us and fueling our students' architectural ambitions as we head into the second half of our journey.

Mid-Week Archivisit: The Architecture of Transparency

Our group had a fantastic morning exploring 'The Architecture of Transparency' exhibition at the Building Centre! We were joined by Clyde Abela from Wintech, who gave our students an insider's look at facade engineering and highlighted Wintech's incredible work on show, including the iconic Olympia project.

Why Facade Engineering Matters

Facade engineering is the vital link between stunning architecture and structural reality. As our students learned today, a brilliant facade doesn't just look good—it is crucial for a building’s sustainability, energy efficiency, and thermal performance. Huge thanks to Clyde and Wintech for inspiring the next generation of designers!

An incredible afternoon for Day 2 of Archivisit as we headed over to Brixton!

We had the absolute pleasure of visiting the beautiful offices of Squire & Partners, where we were hosted by the fantastic Jake Cortis.

It was incredibly inspiring for our students to hear about Jake's personal journey, transitioning from a University of Malta graduate to building a successful career in the UK. He gave us an inside look at his recent project experiences, shared the core design values that drive the partnership, and walked us through their impressive portfolio.

The highlight of the visit was a tour of their stunning, award-winning office space—the meticulously restored Edwardian Department Store in Brixton—capped off with a relaxing drink at their beautiful rooftop bar. A huge thank you to Jake for his time, his invaluable advice, and for being such an exceptional host. Cheers to a memorable afternoon!

Day 2 of Archivisit was an absolute masterclass in structural engineering!

This morning, we had the incredible opportunity to visit the Fenchurch 20 project alongside the brilliant minds at Arup.

Walking around the area, we dove deep into the fascinating structural challenges behind London’s iconic skyline—specifically how these landmark buildings are meticulously designed to respect the city's strict protected viewing corridors.

Wrapping up the tour with a stunning rooftop viewing experience was the perfect reminder of why we do what we do.

A massive thank you to Giancarlo Torpiano and the entire team at ARUP for hosting us once again! Your insights, expertise, and continued support of the Archivisit program are invaluable to us. Looking forward to what the rest of the week brings!
