Hopefully Malawi Government Department of Mining Mw does the needful - the gemstone export ban has brought more problems than it is trying to solve.

PERCY MALETA: REASSESSING MALAWI'S MINERAL EXPORT BAN:

A Call for Pragmatic Reform in the Gemstone and Gold Subsectors:

Malawi’s mineral wealth can transform lives and drive structural industrialization β€” but only through credible systems, realistic policies, and collaborative leadership. Emotion-driven bans may appear patriotic, but they risk killing opportunity and trust. We must invest in skills, certification, and partnerships, grounding policy in practicality rather than passion. That is how Malawi can move from being a reactive observer to a respected participant in the global gemstone and gold trade.

Spinel comes in a variety of rainbow hues and are found all over the world! Here is a look at some notable origins.

πŸ‡²πŸ‡² Myanmar (formerly Burma): Famous for rich, ruby-like red spinels and hot pink spinels with exceptional clarity. Many are found in the legendary Mogok Tract and Namya.
πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡― Tajikistan: Known for pink to red spinel, especially from the historic Kuh-i-Lal mines. The colors here can have less saturation thanks to high chromium content.
πŸ‡±πŸ‡° Sri Lanka: Produces a wide range of colors, including blue, cobalt blue and violet spinels.
πŸ‡»πŸ‡³ Vietnam: YΓͺn BΓ‘i and Luc Yen spinels are prized for their red, blue and pink spinels.
πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Ώ Tanzania: Mahenge spinels dazzle with electric pink to reddish hues and are bright and eye-catching. Blue spinels are also found here.
