Last week we participated in the Tec Science Summit!

The Leaders of our Laboratory, Drs. Misael Sebastián Gradilla and Carolina Senés shared their knowledge in conference panels.

The event explored some of the most important interdisciplinary projects in México aimed at solving complex problematics, including health, technology and sustainability. We are proud to represent Tec de Monterrey's most impactful and out reaching science.

This video shows some of the discussions of the Panel of High Impact Multidisciplinary Research Projects.

We were honored to receive Dr. Wulf Reiners, Ben Stewart and Matthias Kchelmann from the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS).

We have shared our common interests in a global network of policy decision makers, researchers and leaders focused on sustainable development. We have as well discussed new opportunities for Tec de Monterrey members to be part of the Managing Global Government Academy 🌍 in Germany.

Through IDOS, the Sustainability and Climate Change Laboratory is expected to develop closer relationships with institutions from South Africa, India, Indonesia, China and Brazil 🌱.

We want to thank IDOS for the visit and wish to remain in close contact.

The Sustainability and Climate Change Laboratory would like to specially thank Dr. Prof. Bryan Brooks from the Department of Environmental Science at Baylor University for opening the doors to this opportunity.

Along with the whole department, Prof. Brooks has demonstrated great compromise for the inclusion of young researchers from the global south in interinstitutional connections. Tec de Monterrey and our Laboratory will be eager to continue our communication with Prof. Brooks and Baylor University, both through science diffusion and research projects.
*
For this reason, we are happy to receive him at our institution the first week of March. Our Laboratory is convinced his expertise will be of great benefit for our joint efforts.

This year, the government of Jalisco has created the Secretariat of Sustainable Energetic Development (Secretaría de Desarrollo Sustentable), which established permanent working groups with stakeholders from academics, the civil society, the government and the industry.
*
*
These groups will consistently discuss the future of sustainable energy in the state across eight principal axes. The leader of the Laboratory, Dr. Misael Sebastián Gradilla will head the working table "VI. ENERGETIC MANAGEMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE CITIES."

Read this new article in the TecScience magazine by Tec de Monterrey.

This article was written by Marycarmen Verduzco, a PhD student at out Laboratory.

In the article, some of our efforts to produce scientific progress towards the better management of tequila vinasses are exposed, as well as future perspectives and the regulation dimension of this problematic.

Hop in and tell us what you think of this short and interesting reading!

Last week we visited Baylor University in Waco, Texas, as part of our efforts to establish and mature academic relationships with American Universities.

During our visit, Dr. Misael Sebastián Gradilla, leader of the Laboratory, imparted the speech "Understanding microbial communities: a metagenomic approach with applications for freshwater systems" during a seminar that included faculty, staff and students.

Dr. Gradilla also held meetings with Drs. Prof. Ramon Lavado, Ryan McManamay, Owen Lind, Laura Davalos-Lind, Katelyn McKindles, Thad Scott and other faculty to explore future interinstitutional collaboration projects.

The Sustainability and Climate Change Laboratory is consistently generating academic spaces with academics worldwide for the shared construction of science.

We have produced a new publication!

In this new review, 72 reported treatments involving vinasses from the ethanol industry, alcoholic beverage production, and their combinations with agro-industrial residues, were analyzed.

This paper evaluates the different value-added products from vinasse degradation 🌱. The most common operative processes and conditions for vinasse digestion, the opportunity of novel bioproduct generation, and the diversification of treatment processes by using fungi and bacteria are compiled 🍄🦠.

The Sustainability and Climate Change Laboratory uses these projects to demonstrate the scientific evidence for the development of new treatment scenarios ♻️. You can check this new paper through this link 🧪🔬:

New publication! 💡🔬

On this collaboration of the Sustainability and Climate Change Laboratory with the University of California, Davis, the applications, challenges and future opportunities of using microalgal-bacterial aggregates to treat wastewater streams are explored ♻️🧪.

This paper shows our commitment to stay updated on technologies related to waste treatment and to generate science regarding the future of sustainable practices.

We celebrated the Mexican Biologists' Day at the Centro Universitario de Ciencias Biológicas y Agropecuarias in the Universidad de Guadalajara 🌱🌎.

The leader of the Sustainability and Climate Change Laboratory, Dr. Misael Sebastián Gradilla, visited to be part of a workshop and scientific panel discussing the impact of unsustainable practices on Jalisco's biodiversity 🐋🦜. Sustainability, biodiversity and biology workshops were also carried out ✏️📗.

The visit included administrative and scientific authorities from the Universidad de Guadalajara, representatives from the Jalisco Union of Biologists, the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Territorial, and NGOs dedicated to the protection of Jalisco's biodiversity heritage 🌳💚.

We are compromised in the collaboration with local institutions for the joint effort of building a sustainable state, scientific community and industry! 🔬🥼
