Hi, our students are entering a video competition with the Young Innovate Competition. For this part of the competition, only the top 5 videos will be considered for the finals.

They are currently very very behind in the competition - the top video has 500+ likes, while they only have 20 to 80 likes. I would like to ask for your help to like their videos.
Here is how you can help:

1) Click like on the "Chumbaka" page. https://www.facebook.com/chumbaka.asia/?fref=ts

2) Please like the following videos: (a) YI 082 - TFXYZ, (b) YI 079 - RC BOYZ, and (c) YI 080 - TXIN2.

Remember that ONLY likes on the Chumbaka page will be considered!

Please do help. The students worked so hard to make the video of their innovation product. They are currently busy campaigning for their video. It would really mean a lot to them to see public support.

Thanks!

It may have been a weekend, but our ScienceCenter students were eager to sign up for workshops organised by Penang Science Cluster (PSC). Our students had the opportunity to participate in Lego Robotics and Scratch lessons on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Thank you PSC for providing our students with these learning opportunities!

ScienceCenter organised it's first ever exhibition last weekend during SMK Raja Tun Uda's Hari Kokurikulum. It was a grand opportunity to showcase their work! Many people visited the ScienceCenter exhibition, where students' work including Scratch projects, Arduino projects, furniture built during Benih camp, Lego Mindstorms, and prototypes built using recycled material were on display. We were proud to see our students taking the initiative to explain their projects to visitors of the exhibition.

We would also like to congratulate the school's English drama team for winning the performance competition of Hari Kokurikulum! ScienceCenter is proud to have helped with the building of props for the English drama production.

Our students attended the Benih Camp and were exposed to entrepreneurship, electronic engineering, and wood/metal work. They created their own electronic project and furnitures. They're all makers now!

Special thanks to Biji Biji for organizing this!

We finished our second class in Scratch. The theme was "Dance Party". Students were to prepare their character sprites for a dance party. At 3.30pm, we started the dance party (feat Katy Perry - Birthday) and had the students movin' around to look at their classmates' projects. They couldn't sit still after that.

Later on, several students continue their projects at home and compared their work over the ScienceCenter Whatsapp group.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible!

We just finished the first class for Scratch. Our students will learn to code using scratch before moving into embedded systems. Special thanks to the generous contributions of Pacific Mutual Bhd, Arus Academy, DreamCatcher, and Penang Science Cluster which made this happen!

Soon, our students will create their own Scratch project. And to create good projects, they will definitely need inspiration. So, here is a challenge for everyone!
1) Create your own Scratch project
2) Share your Scratch project with our students! You may post the link to your Scratch project by either commenting here or email us directly.

OR

3) If you know of an interesting Scratch project, please feel free to share over here.

We can't wait to see some sharing here. Cheers! :D

We had one great week with ScienceCenter!

1) We hit 300 likes over Facebook! Hurray! Looking forward to our 500 like milestone. Did you know that we promised our students a pizza party if we hit 1,000 likes on Facebook?

2) For the past week, we taught our students binary numbers and had the presented about their passions. This week, we'll be entering our computer phase, starting with Scratch. We are slightly short of getting 30 laptops for all 30 of our students. We currently need another 6 more units. If you know of any organizations, companies or individuals that are looking to give away their laptops, please do reach out to us. Digital literacy is the new big thing. Help us to bring the problem solver out of our students!

3) Last Friday, we were at Incitement Penang! One of the co-founders, Sir Clement Lim spoke at Incitement Penang with a speech entitled "Aspiring to Do More". Here is an excerpt of the 20 minute speech:

""Teaching is a mixed bag of the good and the bad. Sometimes, I get appreciated with random cookies on a random day, random drawings just to show how much they appreciate me. Then there are some days I find my worksheet in the drain, and I see students at the stairway with cigarette butts on the floor. I get frustrated. But I don't forget about those who deserve the push, are asking for worksheets to do more and exhibit potential.

So my colleagues and I wanted to start something so students could spend their time purposefully, create meaningful learning relationships: hence we started the ScienceCenter which is an after-school STEM program. Our students created systems that react to the sound of ping pong ball, code an anti-thief alarm system.

So how can you contribute to teachers/educationalists' efforts? You can contribute your time to speak to our students about career options, volunteer to mentor, you can donate things like books. So the truth is, everyone can do something!

And I am attention seeking so please like our page ScienceCenter!"

Thank you for your gracious support at Incitement Penang!
