Star-Finder Astronomical Society (Star-Finder) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 by a group of science enthusiasts and amateur astronomers. We recognize the responsibility of being a special interest society and understand the importance of astronomy, initiate mission to disseminate information, introduce, and promote astronomy to the general public. Through our outreach programs and activities, we have a vision that more Malaysians will be more knowledgeable and interested in astronomy and science. Our outreach programs targeting public are aimed to disseminate the right information to public at the same time inculcate the interests and knowledge in astronomy to students beyond textbook learning. Regular observation sessions are organized in conjunction with special celestial events such as planetary oppositions and conjunctions, partial and full solar and lunar eclipses, and meteor showers. Monthly Imaging and Observation Party (IOP) brings members to places with low light pollution to carry out observation and imaging as well as lesson about the night sky. The Sidewalk Astronomy is our outreach program to create awareness about astronomy and share the beauty of celestial objects through our telescopes. Besides activities initiated by Star-Finder, we also collaborate with other government and non-government organizations to disseminate the knowledge of astronomy to the public. During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Star-Finder ceased all physical activities to protect our members and public. However, we remain steadfast to serve our members and the public by hosting online talks and classes. We collaborated with various astronomical organizations to host monthly “Teh Tarik Astronomy” online to anyone that were interested or curious about astronomy during Covid-19 lock down. When the Covid-19 was declared as an endemic in 2022, we resumed our traditional physical activities as well as introducing new online programs to serve our members and reach out to the public. In the online “Celebrity Talk” series and “Starry Verse” series, we invite known personalities among the Malaysian astronomy community to share their knowledge and experience to our members. Star-Finder has been the organizer of Malaysia Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (MOAA) since 2017. MOAA is a yearly high school academic competition among high school students that tests their knowledge in astronomy and astrophysics. The top 5 winner of MOAA form the national team to represent Malaysia in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). Our teams have been competing in Thailand, China, Hungary, Georgia, Poland and Brazil since 2017. Learning from our experience during the pandemic, we have reached out to Malaysian professional astronomers around the world to be part of the MOAA academic council which is responsible for the selection and training students for the IOAA. Malaysia’s achievements in IOAA to date include 2 golds, 9 bronzes, and 9 honorable mentioned awards.
