U.S. man hijacked a small plane in Belize on Thursday, stabbing two passengers and a pilot, before one of the stabbed passengers fatally shot him, officials in Belize and the United States said. The plane then landed safely.

The Tropic Air plane was carrying 14 passengers and two crew members, and was flying from Corozal, a small town near Belize's border with Mexico, heading to the popular tourist destination of San Pedro when it was hijacked.

The plane circled in random directions for nearly two hours as the drama unfolded in the skies. The plane was tailed by a police helicopter before touching down at an airport in the coastal town of Ladyville.

Belize authorities declared a full emergency immediately after the incident started, around 8:30 a.m. local time, according to a statement by the Belize Airport Concession Company.

“In the face of incomprehensible pressure, our pilot acted with extraordinary courage and calm, guiding the aircraft to a safe landing. His actions were nothing short of heroic,” said Maximillian Greif, the CEO of the airline company.

The two wounded passengers and pilot were being treated at a hospital for their injuries, officials said.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said at a news briefing in Washington that officials were still gathering information about what occurred.

“Horrifying,” she said. “We are grateful, I think all of us are, that that did not turn into a mass casualty event with I believe over a dozen people on the plane. Clearly we know a few details. We don’t know much more.”

Chester Williams, Belize police commissioner, identified the hijacker as Akinyela Taylor and said he was a U.S. military veteran. U.S. officials could not confirm the Belize police commissioner’s statement that Taylor was a military veteran.

Passengers aboard a United Airlines flight were temporarily diverted from their destination after an incident with a rabbit affected the aircraft’s engine.

On Sunday, April 13, the right engine on United Flight 2325 caught fire after a rabbit reportedly found itself on the runway as the airplane was departing Denver International Airport en route to Edmonton, Alberta.

“On Sunday, our flight from Denver to Edmonton (UA2325) returned safely to Denver to address a possible wildlife strike. The aircraft returned to the gate, and we lined up a new aircraft to get our customers on their way,” a spokesperson from United Airlines told.

Dubai: Emirates Courier Express, the new package delivery service from Dubai's flagship airline, Emirates, is set to expand its offerings to include shipping between individuals by 2026. The service launched on April 2nd currently handles business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) deliveries.

Dennis Lister, Senior Vice President of Product and Innovation at Emirates, said in an interview with Gulf News on Tuesday at the International Air Transport Agency’s (IATA’s) World Cargo Symposium that the "consumer-to-consumer," or C2C, service is a bit more complex due to regulations surrounding personal deliveries.

"We are not doing that just yet, but it will come next year," he said, urging readers to "Watch this space."

Person-to-person shipping allows individuals to send packages directly to other individuals. This differs from standard business shipping and typically involves personal items, gifts, or goods exchanged between private individuals rather than companies.

Emirates Courier Express aims to provide a convenient door-to-door delivery service, utilizing Emirates’ extensive network of over 250 aircraft and its partner network.

Aviation engineers made a shocking discovery while repairing a British Airways Boeing 777-200ER plane in the United Kingdom.

During a routine maintenance check, a service engineer at London’s Gatwick Airport (LGW) found a hidden brick of co***ne stashed behind a panel in the lavatory.

The engineer then called the police, and UK officials at the Border Force and the National Crime Agency are investigating the matter.

The drugs were valued at about £100,000.

Before it went into the airport maintenance hangar, the plane had just operated a flight from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Gatwick.

“Those who attempt to smuggle illegal drugs into the UK should be in no doubt Border Force will find them”.
