Myth: Men cannot get Breast cancer !
Truth: The American Cancer Society estimates 2600 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed this year about 440 men will die from Breast cancer.
Although breast cancer is about 100 times less common among men than women, the lifetime risk of getting breast cancer is about 1 in 1000.
Men can also go for a diagnostic mammography like any other person who wants to test for breast cancer.
Risk factors for Men is Aging. On average, men with breast cancer are about 68 years old when they are diagnosed. Radiation exposure is also a likely reason of developing breast cancer. Gene changes (Mutations), Acquired Gene mutations and inherited gene mutations (BRCA1 and BRCA2) are also reasons for Men to develop breast cancer.
Treatment for breast cancer can be Surgery, Radiation therapy, Chemotherapy, Hormone therapy, Targeted therapy or Bone-directed therapy. However, treatment for cancer can vary from one individual to another taking note of the health status and if the patient’s body can accept the specific treatment.
