Good day everyone!

Many makers (especially in the 3D printing industry) have been stepping up while confined at home and producing items that can be useful in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. We have thus received many requests which we are unfortunately unable to comply with, because our machines are all in storage, we do not have the proper additional materials and we are in complete lock-down as a family. We (Grantham and myself) apologise for any inconvenience and that we are unable to assist you..

I shared posts on my personal page and in the 3D Printing Namibia group, from other companies in Namibia, who are producing these items and already have all the necessary additional materials. See L.A. Signs and Printhoek 3D for more information. I have also shared some open source files for those who wish to create their own protective gear.

I had hoped that my first communication here (after closing our physical store mid 2018), would be a more optimistic post about our plans for the future. For now we will remain closed and continue working on our plans for Educational 3D Technology Solutions - EdTech 3D

Stay safe and take care.
Yours in 3D printing, Lucinda

We are busy updating our social media accounts, which have been neglected this year, but this takes a lot of time. Notifications regarding the progress of our new ventures have been sent out to customers who contacted us throughout the year. However, we wanted to post an official update, because this time of the year there is a lot of interest in 3D printed items such as corporate gifts. Please see the below notification and feel free to contact us at [email protected], for more information.

In June 2018, we announced that we would close our physical and online stores . However, the economic downturn has critically affected multiple small businesses in Namibia and this unfortunately prompted us to NOT reopen a physical store, to avoid propagating financial turmoil. This decision mainly affected our sales division, which required a brick-and-mortar store. Ultimately, this has led to the decision to permanently close our sales division. Customers who are interested in purchasing a 3D printer and filament can contact SA-based companies like Smart3D - Division of Smart Office Connexion, DIYElectronics or AMS 3D Printers, etc.

Following our brief 6 month hiatus (in which we planned the restructuring and rebranding of our business), we announced, in December 2018, that our MineTech 3D department is continuing as an official division of GeoTech Namibia - GBO Geological & Geotechnical Consulting Namibia The aforementioned will resume with research on integrating 3D technology in the mining industry but will not accept any new projects (including 3D printing projects) until December 2020. Contact [email protected] for more information.

The GadgetBoy3D team now operate as a private 3D printing hub, working on limited project (which are aligned with our area of interest and expertise). GadgetBoy3D's focus area is geared towards small/private engineering-type design and 3D printing projects, an area which we are currently still refining. Examples of these types of projects include prototypes and small plastic replacement parts or other jigs and fixtures which can be produced with FDM or SLA 3D printing technology. We have mainly been operating online, because we do not currently have a 3D printing studio where we can receive walk-in customers. For all other types of projects such as jewellery, ornaments memorabilia and/or trophies, we have been recommending that customers contact L.A. Signs in Windhoek as well as ZeroGrafx in Langstrand.

Finally, a spin-off for Educational 3D Technology Solutions - EdTech 3D (previously the educational department of our service division), is continuing as a lone standing company with all remaining services once provided by GadgetBoy 3D Solutions, geared towards the Education sector. "All-in-one 3D printers are somewhat rare, with few manufacturers trying their hand at mastering several tool processes and unifying them into one simple to use package. Of those that do, some give the appearance of curiosity-sating gadgets (that in actuality are perfectly suited to small jobs), while others are full-on productivity machines designed for the makerspace."

Check out 2018's best all-in-one 3D printer, laser engraver, 3D scanner and CNC machines which combine multiple functions into a familiar form factor.

I am happy as this is my first in-house print job... I can only Thank Lucinda and Gothram Ockhuizen for the excellent training and support... I took the bull by the horns and went out on a huge job as a first... 56 hours of printing. Now a bit of sanding glue and paint and then over to the client. looking forward to the next one which is bigger that this one...

Another happy/satisfied customer, purchased a 3D printer and got training about 2 weeks ago.

He immediately (out-of-the-box) started working on his first big 3D printed project and is very excited to be able to turn his own designs into physical objects.

This incredibly innovative educator bought a 3D printer for her pre-school (ABC Learning Academy). We can't wait to see what she will be creating.

It's wonderful to see so many incredible teachers adopt emerging tech in their classrooms.

The image features an educator receiving training, on the 3D printer that she bought for her pre-school (ABC Learning Academy)

We can't begin to imagine all the amazing ways she will be using the technology and we are proud to be part of this journey.

GadgetBoy3D started 3 years ago, with one of our goals being to promote the use of 3D printing technology, specifically in the education sector. One of our two focus divisions, EdTech3D (Educational 3D Technology Solutions - EdTech 3D, was established with the vision of having 3D printers in every school in Namibia.

In March of this year, we delivered our first to a public school in Namibia, M&K Gertze Secondary School. We met with the Principal as well as teachers for subjects like Biology, Motor Mechanics, Geography & Design&Technology. The teachers received one-on-one training and information about all the possible applications in their classrooms. We believe that this empowers teachers to take the information to their learners and to feel confident in using 3D printers in their classrooms...

The machine, a Flashforge Dreamer, was purchased by retired Biology and Life Sciences teacher, Mr Ockhuizen and his wife. They were fascinated by the possibilities of having this technology available in classrooms and therefore sponsored the school of their choice. Mr Johan Ockhuizen and Mrs Juanita Ockhuizen, the founders of OckzSola want to promote the use of green technology in Namibia and they believe that using 3D Printing technology in classrooms aligns with their goals.

We are excited about our follow-up visit and to see how the school has been using their machine.
