📢 New Leadership Announcement

We are pleased to announce the appointment of
Mr. Fabian Shaanika as Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Mines of Namibia, effective 1 May 2026.

With nearly 20 years of experience in mining and investment banking, Mr. Shaanika brings a wealth of knowledge across the full mining value chain, from exploration to production. We are confident that his leadership will help drive the continued growth and competitiveness of Namibia’s mining sector.

We also take this opportunity to thank Mr. Veston Malango for his exceptional service over the past two decades. His dedication and leadership have played a key role in shaping the industry and strengthening the Chamber’s impact.

MEDIA STATEMENT | 19 February 2026

The Chamber of Mines of Namibia has issued a response to remarks made by the ILO Country Director during the Public Dialogue on the Promotion of Decent Work in the Mining Sector.

The Chamber supports constructive engagement on employment, transformation, inclusion, and sustainability. However, several statements require correction and contextual clarification.

The statement provides clarification on:

▪️ The sector’s direct and indirect employment contribution
▪️ Value addition and beneficiation
▪️ Women in mining and inclusion
▪️ Local ownership policy
▪️ Environmental management and sustainability

Mining remains a strategic pillar of Namibia’s economy, supporting over 20,800 direct jobs and an estimated 145,900 indirect jobs in 2024.
