THE Maltahöhe farming community is mourning the death of farmer and businessman Johnny Hanekom, who died in a microlight crash on one of his farms on Sunday morning.
Following the crash, tributes have been paid to Hanekom, who was described as a respected farmer whose passion for agriculture and livestock left a lasting mark on the farming community.
The Namibia Farming Community described Hanekom as an excellent and respected farmer whose hard work, knowledge and dedication made a significant contribution to the agricultural sector.
“His passing leaves a great void and he will be sincerely missed by many people,” the organisation said in a tribute.
It extended condolences and prayers to Hanekom’s family, relatives, friends and everyone who knew and loved him.
The Helmeringhausen Boerevereniging also expressed sadness over Hanekom’s death, describing him as a familiar face in the agricultural community.
“Johnny’s passion for farming and livestock was evident in the life he lived and the contribution he made to the industry,” the association said.
The association extended its condolences to the Hanekom family, Dean, and all those who knew and loved him, saying the Helmeringhausen farming community shared in their grief.
“’n Groot verlies, ’n groot boom wat geval het,” the association said.
