Part 2: He Married Her to Save Her
After the wedding was cancelled, Chioma couldn’t stop thinking about the mysterious man who saved her.
His name was Tunde.
But there was one problem.
The fake marriage certificate he showed the church… had to be explained.
A few days later, Chioma met him at a small restaurant.
“You lied in front of everyone,” she said.
Tunde nodded calmly.
“I know.”
“You could get into serious trouble.”
He sighed.
“I saw the fear in your eyes that day. I couldn’t just sit there and watch your life get ruined.”
Chioma looked at him differently now.
“Why would a stranger care that much?”
Tunde smiled slightly.
“Because my sister was once forced into a marriage she didn’t want. It destroyed her life.”
Silence filled the table.
For the first time, Chioma understood why he did it.
Weeks turned into months.
They started talking more often.
At first it was just gratitude.
Then friendship.
Then something deeper began to grow between them.
One evening, while walking together, Chioma suddenly stopped.
“Tunde… what if that lie we told in church…”
He raised an eyebrow.
“…becomes the truth?”
Tunde looked at her, surprised.
And slowly… he smiled.
Sometimes, the person who saves your life…
becomes the person you spend it with.
