In line with the Federal Government’s rural electrification efforts, through the REA, the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) Programme is delivering impactful, people-centered Energy access infrastructure across the country.

Through the DARES, 17.5 million Nigerians will be energized, through the deployment of 1,350 mini-grids, including Interconnected mini-grids designed to inject additional MW into the national grid.

The REA has commissioned
two mini-grid projects in Kogi State through the DARES: a 700Kwp mini-grid in Offa Community, Olamaboro Local Government Area and a 400Kwp mini-grid in Emewe Efopa Community, Dekina Local Government Area.

The Agency facilitated the groundbreaking ceremony, marking the kick off of construction for a 20MW mini-grid power project in Egume in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, the largest renewable energy facility in North Central Nigeria, to be completed in a few months.

With strategic partnerships such as this, the goal is to ensure Nigeria’s clean energy transition is no longer constrained by finance. The Green Finance and Investment Facility (GFIF) directly targets that bottleneck with a data-backed, system-level solution.

Why does it matter?:

✅️ A $40BN capital mobilisation platform aimed at delivering.

✅️ 20GW of distributed renewable energy (this is not a pilot-scale ambition; it is market transformation at national scale).

✅️ $188M pilot facility.

✅️ 12 project Lots, 9 Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) under the REA's Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES).

✅️ Results-Based Financing (RBF) converts uncertain revenues into bankable cashflows.

✅️ Blended finance architecture integrates grants, debt, equity, and guarantees into one pipeline-to-financial-close system.

GFIF is not designed solely to fund projects, it is standardising a financing ecosystem where projects are prepared, risks are priced, capital flows at scale.

For Nigeria, this enable accelerated electrification, lower diesel reliance, and expanded productive use economies.
