Perhaps you've experienced this: after cleaning the throttle body, the RPMs become miscalibrated, erratic, or even higher than normal.
Most commonly, they fluctuate uncontrollably, the idle is unstable, and the accelerator pedal doesn't respond as it should. At this point, you're facing a classic situation requiring throttle body calibration.

This calibration can be manual in some models, automatic or vehicle-specific, or performed with a scanner. In all three cases, you must first verify the following: that the Check Engine light is not on, that the throttle body is completely clean, that the gaskets are correctly installed (especially the one that seals between the throttle body and the intake manifold), and that all air and vacuum hoses are properly connected with their clamps securely tightened; if any clamp is damaged, it must be replaced. Just as we teach in our diagnostic procedures, these preliminary steps are mandatory before any relearning process.

🔧 Calibration WITHOUT a scanner (when the vehicle allows it)

Turn the ignition switch to the "on" position for 30 seconds without starting the engine, turn it off for 10 seconds, and repeat this cycle two or three times. Then start the engine without accelerating and let it idle until the operating temperature stabilizes and the RPMs become steady. The ECU will relearn the throttle position and idle control.

🧰 Calibration WITH a scanner (recommended method)

Connect the scanner and look for the function:
Throttle Body Relearn / Idle Relearn / Throttle Body Relearning.
Execute the procedure following the scanner's instructions: this usually includes ignition cycles, activation of the throttle actuator, and confirmation of the learning process. Once finished, verify that the idle is stable and that the accelerator pedal responds progressively and normally.
