The Engr. Prof. O. A. U. Uche, FNSE Young Engineers Innovation Competition, held on Saturday, 15 August 2026, received a major boost as Engr. Dr. Auwal Suleiman, Special Adviser on Infrastructure to the Gombe State Governor, His Excellency Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, donated $500 to the winner of the competition.

Also, Engr. Dr. Muhammad T. Abdulwahab, MD/CEO of Amtay Technology Ltd, pledged ₦500,000 for the winner of the next edition of the competition.

These generous gestures demonstrate the growing support for young engineers and the importance of encouraging innovation and practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.

The inaugural Engr. Prof. O. A. U. Uche, FNSE Young Engineers Innovation Competition celebrated outstanding creativity, innovation, and problem-solving among young engineers, with the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr. Prof. O. A. U. Uche, FNSE, presenting awards to the winners of the competition.

Emerging as the first-place winner was Khadija Abdulssamad Ismail from the Department of Mechatronic Engineering, Bayero University Kano, who received a cash prize of ₦200,000 for her innovative solution addressing the solid waste management crisis in Kano State. Her achievement reflects the potential of young engineers to develop practical solutions to some of society’s most pressing challenges.

The second position was awarded to Muhammad Mubaraq Ayinde and Suleiman Arabi Suleiman, both from the Department of Mechatronic Engineering, Bayero University Kano, who received ₦150,000 for their remarkable efforts. The third position went to Rilwan Abioye, David Samuel Ochegbo, and Abdullateef Mustapha Abdullateef from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, who received ₦100,000 for their innovation also focused on addressing solid waste management challenges in Kano State.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Kabuga Branch, Kano, recently held the inaugural Engr. Prof. O. A. U. Uche, FNSE Young Engineers Innovation Competition, an initiative dedicated to celebrating innovation, creativity and professional excellence among young engineers.

The event, held on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at the Convocation Hall, Bayero University, Kano, provided a platform for young engineers to showcase innovative solutions to contemporary challenges and demonstrate the role of engineering in driving sustainable development. The competition was instituted in honour of Engr. Prof. O. A. U. Uche, FNSE, Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

COREN Registrar Welcomes Programme Evaluators to PEV Re-Training Programme

The Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr. Prof. O. A. U. Uche, has welcomed selected Programme Evaluators (PEVs) to the ongoing PEV Re-Training Programme.
In his opening remarks, the Registrar commended the efforts of the PEVs and urged participants to take the training seriously, highlighting their vital role in strengthening the quality, consistency and credibility of COREN’s accreditation processes.
The re-training brings together certified PEVs with Outcome-Based Education (OBE) training, drawn from both academia and industry, to further enhance their knowledge and competence in engineering programme evaluation.
The Registrar emphasised that the exercise forms part of COREN’s continuous efforts to strengthen its accreditation system and align engineering education in Nigeria with international standards and best practices, as the Council intensifies its efforts towards becoming a signatory to the Washington Accord.

Strengthening Engineering Education Through Strategic Collaboration

The leadership of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) today received a delegation from the Yobe State Institute of Biomedical Engineering Technology Establishment Steering Committee on a courtesy and interactive visit at the Council’s Headquarters in Abuja.

Led by the Chairman of the Steering Committee and Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Professor M. B. Kakuwa, the delegation sought COREN’s guidance, technical counsel, and strategic partnership towards the establishment of the proposed Yobe State Institute of Biomedical Engineering Technology.

The engagement reflects the Yobe State Government’s recognition of COREN’s statutory role in regulating engineering education, training and practice in Nigeria, and its commitment to developing a specialised institution that will meet the highest standards of quality and professional excellence.

COREN Management Celebrates Registrar on His Birthday

The Management of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has celebrated the birthday of its Registrar, Engr. Prof. Okorie Austine Uche, FNSE, FNICE, in a special gathering attended by members of staff across the organisation.
The celebration provided an opportunity for COREN staff to honour and appreciate the Registrar’s leadership, dedication, and contributions towards the growth and advancement of the Council.
Expressing his gratitude for the thoughtful celebration, the Registrar appreciated the management and staff for the show of love and support. He encouraged all staff members to continue to see COREN as one family, work together in unity, and support one another towards achieving the organisation’s goals and objectives.
