The stubborn imagine that....Forklift humbled him...
I never thought I'd end up here. Standing tall and strong, with a stable job and the promise of a brighter future ahead. But my journey wasn’t easy. It wasn’t straight. And it sure wasn’t the kind of path anyone would ever wish to walk.
It all started when I was in university. I had dreams, big ones. I wanted to make something of myself, to study hard and give my family a reason to be proud. But life had other plans. There was trouble, trouble I didn’t even fully understand. Cultism. It was rampant in the universities I attended. And as much as I tried to stay away, I found myself entangled, drawn into a world I didn't belong to. It cost me everything.
I dropped out of three universities. Three. Every time I thought I could turn things around, something pulled me back, dragged me deeper. I felt like I was sinking, lost in a world that didn’t care. My family couldn’t understand. They gave up on me. My mother, father, and siblings—they all distanced themselves, the disappointment too heavy to bear. It felt like I was invisible, fading into the background of their lives.
But then, there was one person who didn’t give up on me. One person who saw something in me when everyone else turned their backs. My uncle. He never judged me for my mistakes. Instead, he showed me a way out. "Relocate to Abuja," he said. "I’ll help you get trained. You can start over." And he didn’t stop there. He told me to take up forklift training.
At first, I didn’t understand how something like that could change my life. But I had nowhere else to go, and no one else to turn to. So, I took the leap. I trained, put in the work, and gave it everything I had. I didn’t know where it would lead, but I knew I couldn’t afford to fail again.
Once I finished the training, my uncle sent me to Seoul. And within one week, I had a job. A well-paying forklift operating job. I couldn’t believe it. Here I was, just a few months earlier, a person no one believed in, and now, I had a steady income. More than I could’ve imagined. It felt like my destiny was finally turning around.
Fast forward to now. Every month, I remit at least $1,000 back home. That’s more than I ever thought I could make. It’s more than what I ever imagined possible. And now, I’m the one people look up to. The "star boy" they say. I’ve got my life together, and I owe it all to that one decision—taking that forklift training, listening to my uncle, and having the courage to start over.
Forklift operating didn’t just change my job. It changed my life. It gave me a second chance, a new beginning. It’s not just about the money; it’s about the hope, the belief in myself that I almost lost. I can look at my family again, with pride, and know that I didn’t waste my life. I didn’t let my past define me. I chose to rise.
So, to anyone who feels lost, who thinks there’s no way out—there’s always a way. It might not be the path you imagined, but sometimes the road less traveled is the one that leads to everything you’ve ever dreamed of.
Name: Imagine that.
