NISO STRENGTHENS FOCUS ON GRID STABILITY, STAFF WELFARE AND MARKET DISCIPLINE
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) is strengthening its focus on grid stability, staff welfare, market discipline and technology-driven system operations.
Speaking at a town hall meeting with staff, the MD/CEO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, FNSE, highlighted key achievements and ongoing initiatives, including:
🔹 Sustained efforts to maintain the integrity, reliability and stability of the National Grid.
🔹 The successful synchronisation test involving Nigeria and 14 other African countries, a major milestone in regional power system coordination.
🔹 Development of ultra-modern National Control Centres in Osogbo, Osun State and Gwagwalada, FCT, alongside investments in SCADA, EMS, AGC, telemetry and IoT-based monitoring.
🔹 Use of technology to improve grid visibility and detect emerging issues, including anomalies identified along the Shagamu–Ikorodu transmission corridor, where investigations are ongoing.
🔹 Approval of a Conditions of Service to strengthen the institutional framework for staff welfare, career development, workplace conditions and professional growth.
🔹 Reinforcement of Grid Code and Market Rules compliance, alongside engagements with market participants to promote discipline, liquidity and financial sustainability in the electricity market.
🔹 Development of a Transmission Expansion Plan, being benchmarked against international standards to support long-term grid development and system reliability.
Engr. Mohammed emphasised that NISO’s progress depends not only on technology and systems, but also on the professionalism, commitment and collaboration of its people.
