SPEECH BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEERS (NIEEE), AKURE CHAPTER, ENGR. A. A. ADEYONU
ON THE OCCASION OF WORLD ENGINEERING DAY ON 4TH MARCH, 2025.
Revered Fellows, Esteemed Colleagues, Distinguished Guests, Ladies, and Gentlemen,
It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you all to this year’s World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development. This global event, celebrated every 4th of March, reminds us of the pivotal role engineers play in shaping a better world through innovation, sustainability, and technological advancements.
Engineering is the backbone of modern civilization. As professionals in electrical and electronic engineering, we are at the forefront of designing and implementing solutions that power industries, improve communication, enhance security, and drive economic growth. From renewable energy to smart grids, from artificial intelligence to the Internet of Things (IoT), our contributions are transforming societies and improving lives.
In Nigeria, our challenges—ranging from inadequate power supply to digital infrastructure gaps—demand our ingenuity and commitment. We must continue to advocate for policies that support sustainable energy, encourage local content in engineering projects, and promote research and development.
The theme of this year’s World Engineering Day reminds us of the need to adopt sustainable engineering practices. Climate change, environmental degradation, and energy crises require urgent attention, and as engineers, we must integrate green technologies into our projects.
I urge us all to embrace renewable energy solutions, invest in energy-efficient technologies, and support startups and young engineers with innovative ideas. The future of Nigeria’s development depends on how well we harness these opportunities.
The future of engineering lies in the hands of our young professionals. It is imperative that we mentor and support the next generation through training, internships, and research collaborations. The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers remains committed to capacity-building programs that will equip young engineers with the skills needed for the digital era.
As we celebrate this year’s World Engineering Day, let us renew our commitment to professional excellence, ethical engineering practice, and sustainable development. Let us collaborate with government agencies, industries, and academic institutions to drive technological advancements that will benefit our country and beyond.
Together, we can build a Nigeria where engineering solutions improve the quality of life, foster economic growth, and promote environmental sustainability.
Once again, I congratulate you all on this special occasion. May our collective efforts continue to illuminate the path toward a prosperous future.
Long live the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers!
Long live Nigeria!
Thank you, and God bless.
