Builders Day 2026 was a remarkable occasion dedicated to celebrating the important role of builders in the growth and development of the construction industry and the nation at large. The day served as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of professionals and artisans who work tirelessly to ensure safe, durable, and quality buildings.

In commemoration of Builders Day 2026, (ACEMA), Oyo State Chapter actively participated in a week-long series of activities aimed at creating awareness about professionalism, quality workmanship, and safety in the construction industry.

The week-long programme featured several impactful engagements. It began with radio programmes, where members of ACEMA enlightened the public on the importance of skilled artisans, proper building practices, and the need to prevent building collapse through quality construction.

The activities also included school visits, where students were sensitized about career opportunities in the construction sector and the importance of technical and vocational skills in national development. This engagement helped inspire young people to consider careers as skilled construction professionals.

In addition, ACEMA members took part in paper presentations, sharing knowledge and professional insights on improving standards, promoting best practices, and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders in the building industry.

The spiritual aspect of the celebration was also observed through participation in Juma’ah prayer and Sunday church service, where prayers were offered for the growth of the construction industry, the safety of construction workers, and the continued development of the nation.

Builders Day 2026 therefore served not only as a celebration but also as a platform for advocacy, education, and unity within the construction sector. The active involvement of ACEMA Oyo State reaffirmed its commitment to promoting professionalism, capacity building, and the recognition of artisans as key contributors to sustainable construction and national progress.

“Work in construction, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. They didn’t mention the 5 a.m. alarm clock.”

This statement may sound humorous, but it reveals a deeper truth about the importance of artisans on a construction site.
Behind every beautiful building, strong bridge, or finished project is an artisan who woke up at 5 a.m. The early alarm clock represents dedication, discipline, and responsibility. While many are still asleep, artisans are already on site—carpenters setting out formwork, masons laying blocks, electricians fixing conduits, and plumbers installing pipes. Their hands turn drawings into reality.

Artisans are the backbone of the construction industry. Engineers and architects may design the structure, but it is the artisan who brings the design to life with skill and precision. Without their expertise, plans remain paper ideas. Their practical knowledge ensures that measurements are accurate, materials are properly used, and work is completed safely and professionally.

The 5 a.m. alarm also symbolizes commitment to deadlines. Construction projects are time-sensitive, and every hour matters. When artisans arrive early, it keeps the workflow smooth and productive. Their punctuality and hard work prevent costly delays and maintain quality standards.

Working in construction is indeed rewarding and sometimes fun, especially when teamwork leads to successful project completion. However, it demands sacrifice, strength, and consistency. The early mornings, long hours, and physical effort highlight how valuable artisans truly are.

To understand the importance of artisans on a construction site is to recognize that they are not just laborers — they are skilled professionals, builders of dreams, and key contributors to national development. The 5 a.m. alarm clock may not be glamorous, but it is proof of their dedication and the vital role they play in shaping our communities.

OYO STATE ACEMA BEGINS JOURNEY TO 2026 CONSTRUCTION ARTISAN AWARD
Oyo State Chapter of ACEMA has officially commenced its journey towards the 2026 Construction Artisan Award (CAA) with a well-structured and transparent selection process.

The process began with online registration, where artisans across the state registered and submitted their details. Applicants were required to upload relevant evidence of their practical experience and skills through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment method, ensuring that competence and hands-on expertise were properly evaluated.

Following the online screening, all successful candidates proceeded to a physical interview session held at the NIOB State Office, where their technical knowledge, practical exposure, and professionalism were further assessed by qualified evaluators.

At the end of the rigorous state-level screening and assessment process, four outstanding artisans emerged as winners at the Oyo State level, demonstrating excellence, dedication, and high professional standards in their respective trades.

This achievement reflects ACEMA’s commitment to promoting skill development, professionalism, and excellence within the construction industry.

Congratulations to our winners and best wishes as we continue the journey to the national stage of the 2026 Construction Artisan Award.
