A few weeks ago, we were contacted by a passionate young agripreneur in Asaba, Nigeria, with one goal:
“I want to start my Black Soldier Fly farm — but I don’t have millions.”
At ZSI INTEGRATED, we believe that BSF farming should be for everyone, not just the well-funded. So we designed a system within his budget — no compromise on results, safety, or sustainability.
Here’s what we did 👇
✅ Built a Free-Range Insectarium tailored for local climate conditions
✅ Used wooden eggies and locally-sourced materials to cut costs
✅ Developed a powerful attractant mix with Duckweed and low-risk organic waste — no smell, no health risk
✅ Mass-balanced his process to guarantee consistent output: grow-out ready larvae in just 10 days post-hatch
✅ Trained just two staff, and they’re now producing 1.5 tons of larvae per week!
✅ Maintained frass moisture at 15–20%, perfect for easy harvesting and sifting
✅ Achieved a Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) of 0.7 — meaning he gets 35kg of larvae from every 50kg of dried waste
More importantly, we prioritized three things:

We told him, “When you're ready to scale, we’ll be right here — with automation, tech, and support.”
