A HEARTFELT APPRECIATION TO THE KANO STATE GOVERNMENT & NIPSS

We give all glory, praise and gratitude to Almighty Allah for His grace, guidance and the opportunity to contribute to this important national discourse.

We are also deeply honoured and sincerely grateful to the Kano State Government, under the administration of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabiru Yusuf, and the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), under the leadership of Prof. Ayo Omo Tayo, for recognising the impact of our innovative ENGAUSA® programmes and for the award presented to me as an active stakeholder in the development of Kano State’s Orange Economy, as well as for the opportunity to contribute to this important national discourse.

On 13 August 2026, as scheduled by the Kano State Planning and Reception Committee, I had the privilege of presenting a paper titled “Transforming the Youths through Entrepreneurship Development” to the distinguished participants of Group I of Senior Executive Course 48 (2026) of NIPSS, who were on a Study Tour of Kano State, at the Kano State Government House.

The Study Tour was themed:

“Economic Diversification and National Development: Leveraging the Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Growth in Nigeria.”

The invitation was particularly significant to me because the theme resonates deeply with the work we have been doing at ENGAUSA® Global Tech Hub over the past six years: developing industry-relevant skills, nurturing entrepreneurship, promoting innovation, and creating pathways for young people to participate meaningfully in the digital and creative economy.

A central part of this approach is our use of mother-tongue learning to localise and domesticate digital and Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy, making emerging technologies more accessible, understandable and relevant to underserved communities. We believe that language should not be a barrier to participation in the Orange Economy. Rather, local languages can serve as powerful vehicles for transferring digital and AI knowledge, unlocking indigenous creativity, preserving cultural identity, and enabling more young people to convert their talents and cultural assets into sustainable economic opportunities.

Our experience has demonstrated that talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not.

Through practical skills development, entrepreneurship training, mentorship, incubation and inclusive access to technology, we have witnessed young people move from unemployment and underemployment to self-employment and, in many cases, to becoming employers of labour.

The ENGAUSA® six-year impact report provides evidence of this journey, recording 9,120 trainees and apprentices trained, over 700 startups and SMEs incubated and accelerated, and 10,978+ jobs created. It also documents the growth of ENGAUSA® from a small cubicle to two large training centres in Kano, alongside an online learning platform, ENGAUSA® Academy, www.EngausaAcademy.com, which enables distance learning and provides access to internationally recognised AI certifications through its collaboration with AI CERTs.

Our training participation also grew remarkably from just 63 participants in 2019 to 3,275 in 2025, driven by expanded course offerings, enhanced teaching methods and referrals from our growing community of beneficiaries.

But for me, the numbers tell only part of the story. The real impact is found in the lives behind those numbers.

We have sufficient and verifiable evidence of these transformations through our ENGAUSA® PODCAST, which features firsthand interviews with successful ENGAUSA® graduates and beneficiaries who share their personal journeys, achievements and entrepreneurial experiences. These interviews are publicly accessible on our YouTube channel, ENGAUSA Hub TV, providing a valuable repository of firsthand testimonies that complement our impact data and documented success stories.

These podcast interviews feature young people who have progressed from unemployment, underemployment, informal livelihoods and social exclusion to becoming skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, employers and self-reliant members of society. They also feature beneficiaries who have successfully combined traditional businesses with digital skills, as well as Almajiris, out-of-school children and persons with disabilities who have acquired technology skills and are now participating meaningfully in the digital economy.

Together, these firsthand accounts provide compelling and verifiable evidence that inclusive skills development is one of the most neglected low-hanging fruits for achieving sustainable socioeconomic development.

This is particularly relevant to the Orange Economy:

Nigeria’s creativity, culture, indigenous knowledge, fashion, food, music, film, photography, design, digital content, crafts and other creative assets are not merely expressions of our identity. They are economic resources capable of generating wealth, employment and sustainable enterprises.

Our experience has shown that when these indigenous talents are combined with digital skills, entrepreneurship and emerging technologies such as AI, young people can transform cultural and creative assets into commercially viable products, services and enterprises.

This is why I believe the Orange Economy should be viewed not simply as a cultural or entertainment sector, but as an important component of human capital development, entrepreneurship, innovation, digital transformation and economic diversification.

The responsibility before us is to create an ecosystem where young Nigerians can identify these opportunities, acquire relevant skills, access technology and markets, protect and commercialise their intellectual property, and build sustainable enterprises.

I was therefore particularly delighted to engage with the distinguished participants of SEC 48, Group I, sharing practical lessons and experiences from the ENGAUSA® model and discussing how entrepreneurship, inclusive skills development, mother-tongue digital and AI literacy, and the creative economy can contribute to Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda.

I sincerely appreciate the Kano State Government for recognising the contribution of stakeholders working to advance the state’s Orange Economy and for creating a platform that brings practitioners, policymakers and strategic leaders together.

I equally commend NIPSS for exposing its participants to practical, home-grown experiences and solutions that can contribute to informed national policy formulation.

The award presented to me is not merely a personal recognition. I receive it on behalf of the entire ENGAUSA® family: our dedicated team, instructors, trainees, apprentices, entrepreneurs, partners and supporters who have contributed to this journey.

It is also a reminder that the work must continue.

We must continue to move:

From certificates to competence.
From competence to entrepreneurship.
From entrepreneurship to job creation.
And from job creation to sustainable national development.

We remain deeply grateful to His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabiru Yusuf, the Kano State Government, Prof. Ayo Omo Tayo, the leadership of NIPSS, the Kano State Planning and Reception Committee, and the distinguished participants of SEC 48, Group I, for this honour and opportunity.

Together, we can transform Nigeria’s enormous human potential, cultural wealth, creative talent and technological capacity into productive economic capital.

Thank you.

Beyond Inclusion: How A Kano Tech Hub Is Redefining AI Education For Everyone

Artificial intelligence is often portrayed as the preserve of Silicon Valley engineers, elite universities and multinational technology companies.

Yet, in Kano, a growing movement is challenging that narrative by proving that AI education can be accessible to everyone—from visually impaired learners and deaf creatives to Almajiri children and unemployed youths.

That vision came into sharp focus on July 31 when ENGAUSA Global Tech Hub hosted another edition of its flagship STARTUP FRIDAY programme at the Technology Incubation Centre (TIC), Kano. More than a graduation ceremony, the event showcased an ambitious model of technology education built on inclusion, practical skills and international partnerships.

At a time when governments and businesses are grappling with how to prepare young people for an AI-driven economy, the organisation unveiled initiatives that seek to ensure no one is excluded from the digital future.

Bringing global AI certifications to Northern Nigeria

One of the day’s defining moments was the launch of internationally recognised Artificial Intelligence certifications through a partnership with AI CERTs, New York.

The collaboration positions ENGAUSA among the institutions in Northern Nigeria offering globally recognised, role-based AI certification programmes, enabling learners to acquire credentials that meet international standards.

Delivering a virtual keynote address, AI CERTs representative Yash Nanda highlighted the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence in shaping economies and creating new career opportunities. He described accessible AI education as essential for Africa’s digital transformation and commended ENGAUSA for extending world-class certification opportunities to communities that are often overlooked.

The event also celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of AI CERTs-certified trainers and learners, marking an important milestone in the hub’s efforts to prepare Nigerian youths for emerging opportunities in the global digital economy.

For ENGAUSA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mustapha Ringim, the partnership is about much more than certificates.

“Artificial Intelligence is rapidly redefining the global economy,” he said. “Our goal is to ensure that Nigerian youths, regardless of their background, are not left behind but become creators, innovators and global competitors in the AI revolution.”

Redefining disability through technology

Perhaps the most emotional moments came during the graduation of 12 visually impaired learners who completed the ENGAUSA PC Exploration Programme organised by the ENGAUSA Skills Development Foundation.

Rather than defining the graduates by disability, the organisation celebrated them as “ENGAUSA VIPs”—Very Important People—and referred to them as People with Special Abilities, reflecting its philosophy that ability should always outweigh disability.

After completing practical computer literacy and digital skills training, the graduates received certificates that organisers believe will expand their educational, employment and entrepreneurial prospects.

The ceremony attracted support from government agencies and development stakeholders, including representatives of the Technology Incubation Centre, the National Board for Technology Incubation and the National Agricultural Extension, Research and Liaison Services of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, all of whom praised the initiative’s emphasis on inclusive technology education.

For the beneficiaries, the programme represented more than acquiring digital skills.

Abdulaziz Zango, lead instructor, said the initiative demonstrated that visual impairment should never be regarded as a barrier to technological excellence.

Similarly, Abdurrahman Daushe, chairman of the Kano State chapter of the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Nigeria, thanked ENGAUSA and its foundation for extending scholarships and digital learning opportunities to persons with special abilities, describing the initiative as life-changing.

Opening new pathways for Almajiri children

Beyond AI, ENGAUSA is also seeking to address another long-standing social challenge through skills development.

The organisation formally launched its Almajiri Skills Development Programme, an initiative designed to equip Almajiri children with practical vocational skills capable of generating income and reducing dependency.

Sponsored by Hajia Ummulkhair Aminu Dantata, the programme will provide free training in smartphone repairs and solar installation technology—two sectors where demand for skilled technicians continues to grow.

Rather than viewing vulnerable children solely through the lens of welfare, the initiative focuses on employability and entrepreneurship, equipping participants with skills that can create sustainable livelihoods.

Celebrating excellence beyond physical limitations

The event also highlighted stories that challenged long-held assumptions about disability and innovation.

Among those recognised were two graduates with hearing impairment whose achievements drew prolonged applause from participants.

Musa Salihu was honoured for his work in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, while Ahmad Bashir received recognition for applying AI tools in digital content creation, videography and filmmaking.

Their achievements served as a reminder that talent is not determined by physical ability but by access to opportunity, quality training and determination.

A model for inclusive digital development

As countries race to prepare their workforces for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, ENGAUSA’s approach offers a different perspective—one that combines emerging technologies with social inclusion.

Instead of focusing exclusively on highly educated professionals, the hub extends technology education to women, unemployed graduates, underserved communities, Almajiri children and persons with special abilities.

Through competency-based learning, multilingual instruction and practical skills training, the organisation has expanded beyond conventional ICT education into fields such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics, renewable energy, creative media and technical and vocational education.

The launch of international AI certifications alongside programmes targeting some of society’s most vulnerable groups reflects an understanding that digital transformation cannot be truly successful if significant segments of the population remain excluded.

As Artificial Intelligence increasingly shapes economies and labour markets worldwide, initiatives such as these suggest that the future of AI education in Nigeria may depend not only on technological advancement but also on ensuring that innovation is accessible to everyone.

If that vision succeeds, Kano may become known not only as a commercial centre but also as a place where technology is helping to redefine inclusion, opportunity and the future of work.

ENGAUSA Global Tech Hub has launched internationally recognised artificial intelligence (AI) certification programmes in partnership with AICERTs, a New York-based certification body, to expand access to globally recognised digital skills in northern Nigeria.

The programme was unveiled on Friday during the hub’s ENGAUSA STARTUP FRIDAY event at the Technology Incubation Centre (TIC) in Kano.

The initiative also marked the graduation of the first cohort of AI CERTs-certified trainers and learners, positioning them among globally recognised AI professionals.

Speaking virtually at the event, Yash Nanda, representing AI CERTs, said AI presents enormous opportunities for Africa’s digital transformation and commended ENGAUSA for making international AI education more accessible.

Nanda said globally recognised certification would equip learners with the skills required to compete in the evolving digital economy.

Mustapha Habu Ringim, chief executive officer (CEO) of ENGAUSA Global Tech Hub, described the partnership as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future workforce.

“Artificial Intelligence is rapidly redefining the global economy. Our goal is to ensure that Nigerian youths, regardless of their background, are not left behind but become creators, innovators and global competitors in the AI revolution,” Ringim said.

He said the certifications are role-based and designed to prepare young Nigerians for emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence and related technologies.

The event formed part of ENGAUSA’s broader efforts to promote competency-based education, innovation and entrepreneurship through partnerships with international organisations.

The programme also featured the graduation of beneficiaries of the AI certification initiative, alongside discussions on digital inclusion, technical education and emerging technologies.

Ringim said the partnership strengthens Kano’s position as an emerging centre for AI education while creating pathways for Nigerian youths to obtain internationally recognised credentials.
