Caustic Soda in Textile Processing | Desizing Step
Before fabrics enter scouring and bleaching, one key step cannot be skipped: desizing.
Why desizing matters
During weaving, yarns are treated with sizing agents (such as starch or synthetic sizes) to improve strength and reduce breakage. However, these materials must be removed before further processing, otherwise they will affect fabric quality and chemical pe*******on.
How caustic soda works
🔹 Swelling & loosening
At low concentrations and elevated temperature, caustic soda helps swell the sizing materials, reducing their adhesion to fibers.
🔹 Improved solubility
Starch and chemical sizes transform from a gel-like state into a more soluble form, making them easier to wash out.
🔹 Efficient removal
With proper rinsing, most of the sizing agents can be effectively removed—preparing the fabric for uniform downstream treatment.
