If you have an inverter insta||ed in your home, you may wish to read this post!
So, yesterday, I guess we all saw those trending video clips from Lagos.
Cust0mers and staff of a certain Lagos branch of UBA were seen in the video either jumping from the windows of a tall building or being helped out.
For a moment, I genuinely feared for the lives of those trapped inside.
One question kept ringing in my head: βWere there no emergency exit routes in that beautiful modern edifice?β π
Well, that part has not been confirmed. But one thing that has been confirmed is this: the fire outbreak started in the inverter room located in the basement of the building⦠and from there, it quickly spread across several floors, rooms, and offices in the facility.
This highlights one major danger with inverter systems. As helpful as they are, they can also become hazardous if not properly handled.
Many people install their inverters indoors without paying attention to safety. Thatβs risky.
I would like to share some safety precautions that may save you and your family if you have an inverter at home.
Here are some key tips π
1. Good Ventilation β Always keep inverters and batteries in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Avoid tight cupboards or closed spaces.
2. Avoid Flammable Items β Donβt keep petrol, papers, curtains, or other flammable materials close to the inverter room.
3. Proper Installation β Get a qualified technician to handle installation. Wrong wiring or undersized cables can cause overheating and spark a fire.
4. Load Management β Never overload the inverter with appliances beyond its capacity.
5. Battery Check β Inspect batteries regularly for leaks, corrosion, or swelling. Replace weak ones quickly.
6. Safety Gear β Use circuit breakers, fuses, and surge protectors. Also, keep a fire extinguisher nearby (COβ type is best).
7. Routine Maintenance β Dust, loose connections, or weak terminals should be fixed immediately. Regular inspection is key.
Generally, Inverters are safe for use at home and offices, but only when insta||ed and maintained properly. Carelessness, poor ventilation, or fake equipment can turn them into a danger zone.
Please, don't do trial and error with your inverter. π
Do not try to use your inverter to learn electrical work, by trying to handle your insta||ation by watching a Y0uTube video. Lol.
Engage a pr0fessional for your insta||ation, checks, and maintenance pls.
Please go for originals from the inverter machine, battery, and installation kits including the wires. Fake and substandard materials are chief causative agents in hazards like what happened yesterday at UBA, Lagos.
That said, have you checked your inverter safety recently?π
Or you are waiting to jump from that your 8-storey building when e happen?π
