The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria-Lagos Chapter APWEN is a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), focussing only on professional female engineers (Mrs.) J. O.

The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria APWEN was formed by a handful of women engineers led by Engr. Maduka in 1982, and was formally inaugurated in 1983. It was originally meant to be a pressure group since most men hiring engineers then would rather have women in the kitchen and not on construction sites nor behind the desk carrying out engineering designs.APWENLagos is the L

agos State Chapter of the association. APWEN is a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), focussing only on professional female engineers in all disciplines of engineering. It is also a member of the National Council of Women Societies.

The grand finale of the 2026 World Environment Week was a resounding success as APWEN Lagos Chapter, in collaboration with its major partner, the Food & Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA), joined other stakeholders to celebrate World Oceans Day with a beach clean-up exercise at Ikate Beach on June 11, 2026.

The event brought together several organizations and companies, including NBC, Origin, CWAY, UAC, Guinness, and many others, with participants turning out in large numbers to promote environmental sustainability and responsible waste management. The beach clean-up exercise highlighted the importance of protecting our oceans and preserving a cleaner environment for future generations.

APWEN Lagos was proudly represented and remains committed to supporting initiatives that encourage environmental awareness and positive community impact.

A special appreciation goes to FBRA, our major partner, for spearheading this impactful programme and fostering collaboration among organizations dedicated to building a greener and more sustainable Nigeria.

Thank you, APWEN Lagos, for continually inspiring people to care for and protect our environment. Together, every small action creates a big impact! 🌍💚

On May 20, 2026, the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Lagos Chapter, led by Engr. Zansi Adebowale and Engr. Uchechi Edosomwan, conducted an industrial tour of Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island. The delegation included over two dozen female engineers and student members across Lagos.

The visit aimed to foster collaboration, expose students to large-scale projects, and showcase modern engineering innovations, sustainability, and urban planning.

Eko Atlantic is a privately funded smart city on 11 million sqm of reclaimed land, designed for 300,000 residents and 200,000 commuters. It features advanced infrastructure such as underground drainage, sewage and water treatment systems, and independent 24-hour power.

A key highlight was the Great Wall of Lagos (8.6 km long), a coastal defense system built with interlocked Acropods to withstand ocean pressure for over 100 years.

The project boosts Lagos’ economy through increased investment, job creation, and higher IGR, while setting global property standards.

Overall, the tour provided valuable insights into sustainable engineering and reinforced the vital role of women engineers in shaping Nigeria’s future.
