There is always truth about Marriages
Back in March 2020, when I started dating my wife, I was just a class teacher in Command Science School, earning a little above ā¦40,000. Yes, that kind of salary that disappears before the month even begins. Meanwhile, my wife was in her OND 2, that stage in school when every girl needs financial and emotional support to survive the stress of assignments, lectures, and lecturers with long faces.
But hereās the twist , each time she came to visit me in Orlu, she didnāt come to take, she came to give. When she was leaving, she would ensure I had enough foodstuff to last me through the week. And trust me, in those days, even though foodstuff was cheaper compared to now, ā¦40k could still humble you.
Now, let me be honest. She never pressured me. Never asked for what I couldnāt afford. But I pressured myself. Why? Because she was beautiful ā that kind of beauty that makes every guy in school suddenly want to play "good Samaritan." And deep down, I kept thinking, āIf I donāt secure this woman fast, one sharp guy will sn**ch her away.ā
By 2022, after two years of dating, I made what looked like a crazy decision ā to relocate to Lagos. For me, it was a risk. I thought, āItās better I struggle in Lagos and keep her, than stay in Orlu and lose her while still broke.ā On the night before I left, we cried together. She thought I was going to Lagos to find another woman, and I thought the same about her with other guys. (Love can be suspicious sometimes š).
But we had one thing stronger than our fears ā a promise. And Lagos put that promise to the test. Days turned to weeks, weeks to months, but we never went a single day without speaking. Distance tried to shake us, but our bond said āno way.ā
Then came my birthday ā I invited her to Lagos. She came, we celebrated, laughed, shared stories, and in that moment, we both knew ā God had tied our destinies together.
Soon after, I got a job far better than my teaching salary, life started opening up, and today, we are husband and wife ā blessed with a baby boy who reminds us daily that our decision to hold on was worth it.
The truth about marriage?
Itās not about finding someone perfect. Itās about finding the right person who chooses you every day, supports you when youāre at your lowest, and laughs with you when life finally gets better.
