The Federal Government, in partnership with Siemens Energy and GIZ, has opened applications for a free Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installation Training programme.

The programme is open to professionals, technicians, young people, recent graduates and people interested in building a career in renewable energy. You do not necessarily need previous solar experience or formal education to apply. (Punch Newspapers)

Step 1: Open the application link below.

Step 2: Complete the online Expression of Interest form.

Step 3: Enter your full name, gender, phone number and email address.

Step 4: Select your preferred training location — Lagos or Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Step 5: Confirm that you are available to attend the three-week physical training.

Step 6: Provide your educational and professional information, including your highest qualification, employment status and work experience.

Step 7: If you have formal qualifications, upload your latest CV, degree certificate and other relevant certificates.

Step 8: Review your information carefully and submit the application.

Any time a circuit has a fault, you must understand the type of fault before trying to fix it.

It is the duty of the engineer to supervise and regulate every project. This starts from planning stage to construction stage to commissioning.

However, most clients often prefer to jump into technicians or sometimes artisans to execute their contracts. This is a deadly error. At least there should be a professional on ground (an engineer) that will call these artisans to order when they go wrong.

Some clients even say the engineers only learn theory in school...what a big lie! Those who only go to university to learn big mathematics without proven practical skills are not certified by professional bodies until they undergo practical trainings to equip them with the required skills.

Technicians and artisans should also invite qualified engineers whenever they are called upon to handle contracts. This does not undermine their skills. It is simply helping them to execute the projects in a better way as stipulated by certain standards and codes.

The construction site is a teamship job. The engineer is the head and every other person works under him.
