Meet Dave, the celebrity electrical engineer.
Having studied electrical electronics engineering in school, I had the passion to practice what I studied, not just practicing but to be the best in the field, Growing up, I saw firsthand how unreliable electricity could disrupt lives, businesses stalled, students struggled to study, families sat in darkness. I didn’t just want to complain about it. I wanted to be part of the solution. because I believe every home, school, and business deserves safe, dependable power. I was inspired by the idea that one skilled technician, armed with integrity and passion, could make a real difference. I wanted to build a service that people could trust not just for quick fixes, but for long-term peace of mind.
That was what fueled the birth of UTC ELECTRICAL SERVICES .

🌧️ Rainy Season & Solar Power Woes: Why Systems Are Struggling

As the rains roll in, some solar installers are hearing complaints from clients about reduced system performance. Here’s the truth behind it.

🚫 Many inexperienced installers skip a critical step: calculating the actual power needs of the apartment. Without this, the system is bound to fail—especially during poor weather.

🔍 Enter THoLE—Total House Load Evaluation. I coined the term, but the concept is vital. It’s just as essential as choosing the right panels, batteries, and cable sizes. If the battery’s autonomy doesn’t match the client’s load, expect constant shutdowns and power shortages once the sun hides.

👷🏽‍♂️ Advice to installers: Be honest with clients. If the home’s demand requires a 12kVA system but they only want to pay for 5kVA, teach them how to control their usage. Help them understand what a 5kVA inverter and 5kWh battery can realistically handle. That way, you protect your reputation and their expectations.

🌥️ Rainy seasons = lower solar input. Fewer panels mean weaker daytime charging. So what’s the fix?

⚡ Solution: Install more panels for each battery. A good rule? Use a 2:1 panel-to-battery ratio. That way, even with reduced sunlight, high-efficiency panels can still gather enough power. It’s not about overdoing it—it’s strategic.

💡 Always explain your panel logic to clients. More panels = better performance and reliability. The benefit is theirs, not yours.

Avoid cheap installations aimed at quantity. Focus on quality, and never skip:

A basic solar power system setup. The solar panel collects sunlight and converts it into DC power, which is then routed to the DC distribution box (DC DB Box) for safety and circuit management. From there, the energy flows to the MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controller, which optimizes the power output from the solar panel. The power is then sent to the inverter, which converts the DC power into AC power for household use. The inverter is connected to a battery bank, where excess energy is stored for later use, ensuring a steady power supply even when the sun isn’t shining. The AC power is distributed to the load, such as appliances and lights, via the connected electrical outlets. This system efficiently provides clean, renewable energy to power everyday devices.

To effectively charge a solar battery, you need to consider watts, volts, and amps, but the most important aspect is watts, which represents the power output of the solar panel. Volts and amps determine how the power is delivered and how it affects the battery charging process.

Here's a breakdown:👇

WATTS(watt):
Watts represent the total power output of the solar panel. It's the measure of how much energy is produced per second. A higher wattage panel will generate more power, allowing for faster charging of the battery.

VOLT(v) :
Volts represent the electrical potential or "pressure" of the solar panel and battery. The solar panel needs to provide enough voltage to overcome the battery's internal resistance and start charging. A voltage mismatch between the panel and the battery can prevent charging.

AMPS(amp):
Amps represent the flow of current, or the amount of electrical charge passing through the circuit. The charging current needs to be appropriate for the battery's capacity and charging rate. A high current can damage the battery if it's not properly regulated.

How they work together is this
A solar panel generates power in watts. This power is delivered as a combination of voltage and current (amps). A solar charge controller regulates the voltage and current from the solar panel to match the battery's charging requirements. The controller ensures the battery is charged safely and efficiently, preventing overcharging or damage.

Summary:👇

Watts: Determine the total power available for charging.

Volts: Determine the "pressure" needed to push power into the battery.

Amps: Determine the flow of current and how quickly the battery charges.
