How to know if your battery is dying (before it leaves you in darkness).

Here are 5 signs to watch for from a female solar installer who has seen it all:

Voltage drops fast
A healthy 12V battery should read 12.5V – 12.8V when resting (no load). If it reads 10.5V or less after just a few hours of use, it is dying.

Lights flicker or dim
When your inverter is on battery, do your bulbs flicker? That means the battery is struggling to deliver steady power.

Inverter beeps more often
Frequent low-voltage alarms (even when battery was "charged") = dying battery.

Longer charging time

A dying battery takes forever to charge but drains in minutes.

Physical signs (for lead-acid)

Bulging case, leaking fluid, or rotten egg smell = dead battery walking.

Ignore these signs and you will wake up to a dark house.
