This is a side of our business that many people don't get to see: custom battery building.
While most people know us for solar installations, we also build bespoke lithium battery systems for clients with unique energy requirements. For this project, two members of our team traveled to Owerri, Nigeria, to build a custom battery solution from the ground up.
The customer supplied Nissan Leaf battery modules, originally designed for electric vehicles. We carefully disassembled the battery pack, tested and sorted the modules, and then re-engineered them into a custom 53.8V battery bank suitable for residential energy storage.
The final battery was built in a 4P7S configuration, delivering approximately 280Ah of capacity 15kWh of usable energy storage.
Projects like this require a deep understanding of battery chemistry, cell balancing, safety systems, and battery management integration. It's not simply a matter of putting cells together; every module must be tested, configured, and monitored to ensure long-term reliability.
The customer is happy with the outcome, but the project wasn't without challenges. We encountered a few unexpected issues during the build, and we'll be sharing in tomorrow's post.
