TymonSound

TymonSound Tymon Kruidenier - producer & mixing engineer. Hey there! TymonSound is the name of my company which is offering my professional music related services.

I'm specialized in music production and mixing, but also offer services like composition, music education and session work as a guitar player. As many audio engineers, I started fooling around with engineering as a means to an end. I've always been interested in capturing my own musical ideas, so recordings guitars is where it all started. But it didn't take long before it sparked an interest in f

ull blown music production and engineering and before I knew it, I was recording and mixing demos for local bands. That's when I decided to study Music Production & Composition at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. I graduated in 2009 with the first Exivious album being my graduation project. After some very busy years playing guitars for US prog band Cynic, I moved back to The Netherlands where I started constructing my first professional project studio. It's basically a medium sized control room that's great for mixing and tracking instruments like guitar and bass. And it also has a vocal booth for recording vocals or other instruments that need a dry, isolated sound. For tracking drums, I have some great studios to work from depending on the available budget. What I love most is doing full productions including mixing, especially if it involves creative and original music! But I'm also available for mixing jobs only, or any other configuration where my services can be useful. Contact me for pricing and availability! Thanks for reading,
Tymon

Dialogia - This was a fun and special one to mix! The band had a really particular vision of how things should feel and sound, which quite honestly took me a while to understand and put into a mix that made sense.

That happens from time to time, you don't always get it right on first try. This used to annoy me, back when I started out mixing for others. But these days, I welcome the challenge and accept the fact that the artist always knows best what his or her music needs in order to fulfill their vision. This is such a good example of that. It's a strange mix to me, but it feels so right for their music. A nice side effect is that the band themselves were incredibly appreciative of the work I put in and beyond happy with the results. That of course made my day.

Anyhow, check it out if you're into bands like Opeth, Katatonia and Daylight Dies. My buddy Jasper Barendregt (Dodecahedron, Our Oceans) played drums on it and did a terrific job as always. There's also a couple of guest appearances by the likes of Barre Gambling (Daylight Dies), Bobby Koelble (ex-Death) and Guthrie Iddings (ex-Daylight Dies).

This track was so much fun to work on! Starting with an intimate piano/vocal song and transforming it into the melancholy synth beast it became. Featuring Jasper Barendregt on drums, Robin Zielhorst on bass and the amazing Egon Bacøn on vocals.

I'm really embracing attitude over polish these days, when it comes to my mixing work. MARCH's new album fit that approach perfectly. Loved working on this one!

My buddies of Extremities just released their debut album. Do check it out if you want to hear some very creative and ambitious music! Ranging from crushing metal to intricate prog to dreamy post-rock.

The album was mixed by me and I had a blast working on it! I'm thinking of doing some videos where I'll dissect one of the mixes and explain what exactly is going on. Should be a fun watch for all the production/mixing nerds out there!

Extremities' debut full-length "Gaia" is out now! Extremities is: Thimo Franssen - Vocals David Luiten - Guitar, backing vocals, keys Maarten Stoelhorst - Gu...

Here's a remix of Wheels Within Wheels by CYNIC. Some info below:

I originally mixed this song on a laptop with limited CPU power, using headphones for monitoring. To make things even worse, the drums were recorded in our rehearsal room using cheap mics on a cheap interface with only 8 inputs. That means no room mics, only 1 kick mic and 4 toms were summed to 2 channels, going through a cheap Behringer mixer. The toms were also EQed on the mixer and the overheads were slightly clipping.

I always loved this song and the performance, so I dug up the old backup drive and remixed it, using some new techniques and a lot of trick to get these crappy recordings to sound big and professional.

Here's some mix info for the nerds:

- I simulated 2 rooms out of the overhead tracks. Using both convolution and algorithmic reverbs.

- The kick and snare are layered with samples ever so slightly. I'm usually not a fan of using samples, but in this case, it was needed. Slate Trigger to the rescue!

- I cut up the toms so I could manually spread them to 4 different channels and mix them individually.

- I used tons of analog sounding plugins to get these tracks to come alive. SoundToys Decapitator, Devil-loc and all of Slate's virtual analog gear plugins. Man I love that stuff!

- Unfortunately, I didn't have the DI tracks for the guitars and bass anymore, so they're mixed as they came. Too bad, because I would have loved to re-amp the gtrs through my Axe-FX II. They were not that badly recorded though, so I managed.

- I completely got rid of Paul's vocal effects from his TC Helicon unit and redesigned all the spacious, alien robotic vocals. I also melodyned the hell out of his vocals.

- Back when I originally mixed this song, I didn't use that much automation, which resulted in very static mixes. These days, it's my best friend. Everything, from volume, panning, reverb and delay times, stereo width, and so on... it's constantly being automated to keep things breathing.
