The EV Market achieved solid momentum in July, representing 13% of all new light passenger vehicle registrations.

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs): 7.2% (down from 12.4% in June).

Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs): 5.8% (down from 6.0% in June).

New Zealand’s total registered EV fleet now stands at 128,462 vehicles.

The most popular BEV model in July was the Tesla Model Y.

The NZ EV market achieved significant growth in June, with EVs representing 18.4% of all new light passenger vehicle registrations - the highest monthly market share in 2025 so far.

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs): 12.4% (up from 6.5% in May).

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs): 6.0% (up from 4.6% in May).

The NZ EV fleet now stands at 126,902 vehicles.

The most popular BEV model in June was the Tesla Model Y.

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs): 6.5% (down slightly from 7.3% in April).

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs): 4.6% (up from 3.4% in April).

In April, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) represented approximately 7.3% of new light passenger vehicle registrations, a slight increase from 7.0% in March.

Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) accounted for 3.4% of new registrations, slightly down from 3.6% in March.

Total EV market share reached 10.7% of all new light passenger vehicle sales.

In March, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) made up about 7.0% of new light passenger vehicle registrations (down slightly from 7.9% in February).

Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) accounted for 3.6% of new registrations (down from 7.2% in February).

Total EV market share reached 10.6% of all new light passenger vehicle sales.

Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) represented 7.2% of new registrations (up from 3.5% in January).

Combined, EVs reached 15.1% of all new light passenger vehicle sales.
