Monday marked a major milestone in the Taylor River boardwalk replacement project, with the main pedestrian bridge beside the amphitheatre successfully craned back into place.

Located off High Street opposite the library, The Quay provides an important connection between the river pathway and Blenheim’s central shopping district. Keeping this access safe, functional, and looking its best has been a key focus of this project.

CMT Group is undertaking the replacement of a section of boardwalk affected by rotting planks, along with a full timber replacement on the main pedestrian bridge. The upgrade also included the installation of Haptix-branded tread plates to help reduce slips and falls and improve safety for everyone using the bridge.

The bridge structure was refurbished off-site before being carefully craned back into position yesterday, a huge effort from everyone involved.

Despite significant delays caused by high river levels, it’s fantastic to see this important community asset coming back together.

Bring the family for some fun at Blenheim's newest subdivision.

Civil construction at Blenheim’s newest neighbourhood is now complete, and the first homes are nearing completion. To mark the occasion, developer Hāpai Housing LP, together with Ka Uruora, is hosting a Waikārapi Community Open Day and the community is invited to come along.

📅 Saturday 28 March 2026
⏰ 12:00pm – 2:00pm
📍 46–48 Hospital Road, Witherlea, Blenheim

It will be a relaxed afternoon for the whole whānau, with a sausage sizzle, ice cream truck, coffee cart and plenty of activities for the kids - including a bouncy castle and a chance to try a ‘be a digger driver’ demo. Prize winners from the Waikārapi youth art competition will also be announced, with their artwork displayed on site.

The CMT Group team will be there, manning the barbecue, bringing the digger and providing options for your future dream home.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to walk the subdivision, meet the team involved in the project, and tour the first completed homes to see the quality of the development taking shape.

Waikārapi will deliver 94 fully serviced sections within a landscaped setting, including 40 affordable homes delivered in partnership with Ka Uruora to support pathways to renting and home ownership.

If you're curious about the development or simply want to see how the neighbourhood is coming together, we’d love to see you there.

Out in the Kenepuru Sound, every metre of road we repair, every culvert we replace, and every retaining wall we build has one purpose, keeping remote homes and communities safely connected. At CMT Group, we’re working alongside Marlborough Roads and the wider recovery teams to strengthen the essential lifelines that support residents, families, farmers, and small businesses throughout this unique part of the Sounds.

From Moetapu Bay to Ohauparuparu Bay, our people have been working shoulder to shoulder across multiple active sites. Together, we’re tackling slip repairs, drainage upgrades, road retreats, retaining walls, and pavement reconstruction, all critical tasks that keep one way access routes safe and reliable for the communities who depend on them.

The progress being made throughout the Kenepuru corridor is the result of genuine teamwork between local contractors, Marlborough Roads, traffic management crews, engineers, and the residents who patiently navigate closures and delays. Our Site Manager, Adam Carrington, highlights this perfectly:

“I’d like to acknowledge all the great work happening behind the scenes. This week, Karan, one of our Project Engineers, stepped beyond his usual responsibilities to support the crew on site. His willingness to get hands on when the team needed it, is a strong example of the ownership, teamwork, and commitment that drive our projects in the Sounds. Exceptional effort.”

The Marlborough Roads Recovery Team, a joint venture between NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Marlborough Roads, Fulton Hogan and HEB Construction, was set up in August 2021 following the July storm to repair and restore the network. It has been one of the largest roading recovery projects in the country and is jointly funded by NZTA and the Marlborough District Council.

Meet Stu, one of the key people behind the high‑quality drainage work CMT Group is known for across Marlborough.

Stu has been in the drainage game for more than a decade, starting in Christchurch where he worked on deep drainage and complex underground infrastructure after the earthquakes. That experience taught him how to solve problems on the fly, work safely in tough conditions, and get the job done right no matter what he finds underground.

Here in Blenheim, Stu has been a major part of the Summerset Retirement Village development and the Rose Manor subdivision, helping guide the team through everything from tricky ground conditions to detailed three‑waters quality testing.

What people love about working with Stu:
* He leads with calm and confidence
* He trains up our newer drainlayers and brings out their best
* He communicates clearly with councils, engineers, and everyone on site
* He takes real pride in delivering work that lasts

It’s great having Stu as part of the CMT whānau, one of the reasons our drainlaying team is considered among the best in Marlborough.

CMT Group is powering the build at Waikārapi.

Waikārapi is moving fast and CMT Group is one of the key forces driving it forward.

As the main civil and building contractor, we’re delivering the core foundations of the development and around 40 homes in the early stages. Our team is leading the work that turns bare land into a thriving community.
By keeping delivery local, we’re ensuring Waikārapi is built with Marlborough expertise, Marlborough labour, and Marlborough investment, strengthening the region with every stage of the project.

“We are thrilled to partner with Hāpai Housing as the main civil and building contractor for Waikārapi Subdivision,” says marketing manager, Michelle Burns.

“This comes from a true alignment with values on building sustainable homes for our local community. Further to this, our extensive range of house and land packages in the subdivision means future homeowners have a direct and streamlined path into the Waikārapi community.”

With combined strength in both civil works and construction, CMT Group brings an integrated, efficient, and high‑quality delivery model, reducing risk, speeding up progress, and raising the standard across the entire subdivision.

Another fibre install delivered, this time with a strong focus on reducing disruption and maximising efficiency.

On Lowther Drive, we used the right construction method for each part of the job. Where space allowed, we kept things simple with open trenching. In tighter areas including crossings and existing services we switched to thrusting and directional drilling to keep everything above ground intact.

What that meant for the client and community:

✅ Fewer road cuts and less reinstatement
✅ Reduced traffic management and delays
✅ Minimal impact on driveways, services, and landscaping
✅ Faster delivery overall

Directional drilling allowed us to install fibre where traditional trenching would have slowed the job down or caused unnecessary disruption saving time, cost, and inconvenience.

As the only contractor offering directional drilling in the Top of the South Island, we’re able to provide practical solutions that keep projects moving while respecting the environments we work in.

If you’re looking for a smarter way to deliver underground services, let’s talk.

Great to support the Triumph Riders Motorcycle Club – Marlborough Chapter in their Christmas Dice Run, raising funds for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter 🚁

It was awesome to see some of our own team out riding alongside the wider local community, all getting behind a cause that makes a real difference across our region. Events like this are a good reminder of the impact local clubs and volunteers have when everyone pitches in.

Thanks to the Triumph Riders crew for organising a great day, and to everyone who took part and donated.

Progress is taking shape at the University of Canterbury Science–Erskine Carpark & Security Cycle Path upgrade.

The University of Canterbury has engaged us as a trusted main contractor to deliver this civil and cycleway upgrade within their Ilam Campus. The project enhances the Security Pathway and the Science / Erskine Carpark, improving safety, accessibility, and connectivity for people moving through this busy part of campus.

With earthworks and civil works well advanced, last week marked a key milestone as the carpark began to be sealed, a visible transition from structure to surface as the project moves toward completion.

We value the opportunity to work within a live campus environment and alongside the University team to deliver infrastructure that is durable, considered, and built to support long-term use. More to come as the project continues to take shape.
