She is a proud Kaipara local, mum to her daughter Leyla, and loves camping around the Kaipara and road tripping through Aotearoa, collecting place-name magnets along the way.

FAQ - Do I need a building consent for a new build?

Yep, you do!

All new builds need building consent, so the council can check the plans meet the New Zealand Building Code before anything gets underway.

One thing we always like to be upfront about is this: a new build takes a fair bit of planning before anyone even turns up on site.

There is usually concept design, working drawings, pricing, engineering, and council approvals to get through first.

For a standard home, it is realistic to allow around 3 to 6 months for that upfront stage, and longer again if the site is rural, sloping, tricky, or needs extra approvals.

How long do renovations take?

That really depends on the size of the job, and if we need to wait on building consent.

As a rough guide, a bathroom reno might take 3 to 4 weeks, a kitchen around 3 to 6 weeks, roofing work around 1 to 2 weeks depending on the weather, and bigger renovations 2 to 4 months or more.

It’s a good question... and one people often underestimate!

Before any work starts on site, there’s usually planning, design, and sometimes council approvals to work through. That upfront stage can take a few months, depending on the job.

That’s why we’re big on getting involved early.

We are currently planning work for 2027, so if you’ve got a project in mind, now’s the time to start thinking ahead.

Getting in early means everything can be lined up properly, without the rush later on.

A bit of regular maintenance can save you a whole lot of cost and hassle down the track.

Things like clearing gutters, checking sealants, and keeping an eye on damp or problem areas can make a big difference over time.

If something doesn’t look quite right, it’s always better to catch it early before it turns into a bigger repair job.

We’re currently booking work into 2027, so if anything is starting to show up, now’s the time to get in touch and plan ahead.

Matariki hunga nui - Matariki of many people

As Matariki rises in our skies once again, it’s a good time to pause, reflect, and reset.

At Good Built Homes, we recognise this special time in the Māori calendar as a chance to remember those we’ve lost, celebrate new beginnings, and look ahead with a bit of hope and purpose.

Matariki also reminds us of the things that matter most: whanaungatanga (connection), pono (integrity), and mahi tika (doing things the right way). These are values we try to bring into every build and every project we take on across the Kaipara.
