Australia has announced a "Grandfather Clause" to allow the sell through of non Lead Free brass products. MBIE of NZ have said no. You will need to dump all the non compliant product. There is some very dodgy lobbying going on by our industry and it must stop. Stupid decision by MBIE. Our whole industry will suffer if we are forced to dump perfectly good stock.

Lead-Free date extension for OZ.
Due to housing demand and concerns about product availability, Australia agreed to extend the installation deadline for existing (non-lead-free) WaterMark-certified products to 1 May 2028.

This extension applies only to existing stock already in the market, allowing sell-down of surplus inventory built up during pandemic-related disruptions and certification delays.

Now NZ will need to follow their lead. Watch this space.

At last, a Basket Waste made for NZ Traps that will not jump and fits perfectly inside the lip of the trap creating a perfect seal. No need to cut the trap nut down.

We have no issue with this. We manufacture our products to Watermark Standard and have certification. But who checks the Chinese imports that are just stamped with a "W"?

Some good news for anyone building or renovating. More than 90,000 plumbing and drainage products have just been approved for use here.

We changed the law earlier this year to make it easier to access quality, trusted building products already common in countries like NZ.

These plumbing products are certified by the reputable Australian WaterMark scheme, which is now officially recognised in NZ as a trusted quality-checker.

Opening up access to more materials will boost competition, help keep costs down and make supply chains more resilient, so builders aren’t left short when demand spikes or disruptions hit.

This is just the first package of products announced and there’s lots more to come.

Plastec NZ only supply our product to Plumbing Merchants. We do not sell to Big Box home handyman stores. Only plumbers and drainlayers are allowed to install our products in NZ. DIY weekend warriors cannot do sanitary plumbing. Time for other suppliers to support the trade.
