🏡 Supporting Homeowners Through the 2P Process 🏡

For homeowners affected by the events over the Auckland Anniversary weekend and Cyclone Gabrielle, and categorised as 2P by Auckland Council, navigating the restoration process can be challenging. From understanding eligibility to securing funding and carrying out repairs, there are multiple steps involved.

To simplify this process, we’ve partnered with Structural Engineers, Mitchell Vranges to provide home owners with an end-to-end solution.

🔹 What is Category 2P?
It applies to properties where land can be remediated for less than 25% of your property’s valuation, mitigating any “intolerable risk to life”, allowing homeowners to access funding for repairs and restoration.

Having assisted a number of homeowners through the 2P process, we’ve seen firsthand how proactive engagement with Auckland Council can speed up approvals and help owners return home sooner.

Piling plays a critical role in constructing structures on fortified, load-bearing, and geologically challenging terrains. It involves deep foundation systems designed to transfer structural loads to stable subsurface layers. With four new apartment buildings in the works, our piling crews have been hard at work ensuring a strong foundation for this development.

The footage highlights:
✅ Our LB-24, LRB-23 and IMT rigs in action
✅ Precision piling operations for Buildings A & B
✅ Environmental and safety measures in place
✅ A glimpse of the scale and complexity of the project.

Why Piling Matters:
✔️ Ensures foundation stabilization and uniform settlement
✔️ Enhances load-bearing capacity for vertical and lateral forces
✔️ Adapts to challenging geology, preventing instability
✔️ Increases durability and longevity in diverse conditions
✔️ Supports specialized applications like bridges and marine structures
✔️ Offers technical advantages with minimized surface disruption

✨ Strong foundations = Endless possibilities! ✨

This project is a testament to our expertise in tackling challenging sites, working adjacent to State Highways while maintaining efficiency and safety. Stay tuned for more insights into how our piling expertise supports resilient, lasting construction!

Check this out! A throwback to last winter where our team tackled a challenging site with precision and expertise! Initially, the client had designed sheet piles for an area that used to be a riverbank. However, after assessing the terrain, we advised sheet piles weren’t the best fit. The client turned to us for an alternative and we proposed the Double Rotary CFA (DRCFA) method as the perfect solution.

With 30 piles, each 900mm in diameter, installed to a depth of approximately 15 meters and slightly overlapping, we created a cylindrical retaining wall to house a new pump station. Thanks to our experience and the confidence the engineers had in our approach, we were awarded the project and delivered outstanding results.

This 1-minute timelapse shows 48 minutes of real-time action, demonstrating just how fast, efficient, and effective the DRCFA method is. Mobilising, installing all 30 piles, and demobilising the site took just 7 working days!

💪 At CLL, we pride ourselves on providing innovative, client-focused solutions that adapt to every challenge.

Introducing the West Coast Road Slip Repairs Project

We’re excited to share this drone flyover video showcasing the challenging yet essential work being carried out on the West Coast Road Slip in Motutī, Northland. Since November 2024, our Waipapa based team has been hard at work establishing the site to build a reinforced piled wall, similar to the structures completed on the SH1 Mangamuka Gorge Project.

Project Highlights:
57 piles will be drilled at 900mm diameter.
The wall spans approximately 100 meters in road length.

This video shows the extent of the damage and the challenging terrain our team is navigating to restore this critical route.

Thank you, NZTA, for recognizing Kent's incredible efforts on the Mangamuka Slip Repairs project. As the construction contractor overseeing and delivering this critical work, we’re beyond proud of Kent and our entire team for their dedication and hard work.

It’s been a challenging but rewarding journey, and we’re thrilled to see this vital section of state highway nearing its reopening—bringing much-needed connectivity back to the Far North district.

Ka pai to everyone involved!

This week’s Roadworker of the Week is Kent. Currently working as a Senior Supervisor for CLL Service and Solutions, Kent oversees day to day operations across the slip repairs on State Highway 1 through Mangamuka Gorge in Northland.

Kent’s journey in construction began 20 years ago when he moved from Canada to New Zealand. Starting in geotechnical investigations, he progressed through roles as a rig operator and foreman before joining CLL over seven years ago. Kent has managed the day-to-day operations, logistics, and health and safety protocols onsite since the project started.

Kent’s meticulous planning and organisational skills are vital given the work near active slip sites and in high-risk environments. From coordinating multiple operational sites to ensuring safety remains paramount, Kent exemplifies the precision and dedication required to keep a project of this large scale running smoothly.

Kent believes his work in Mangamuka Gorge has been the most rewarding in his career, having seen the growth and development of the team over the lifetime of the project. With a significant percentage of the team on site hailing from the Far North, the project has formed a deep connection with local residents and mana whenua.

The road through the Gorge will open on Friday 20 December, and work will pause for the holidays. The road will remain open while the team returns on Monday 13 January to complete the final pieces of work.

A massive thanks to Kent and the team working in Mangamuka Gorge. Roadworkers can be found out and about working on roads across the country. Travel safely through their worksites, follow signage and any instructions you receive, and give them a wave to say thanks for their tremendous work.

Last week, we shared footage of a CFA pile installation. This week, we're taking it to the next level with 'Double Rotary.' This advanced method uses two rotary drive heads simultaneously—one for the auger and one for the casing. This dual rotation ensures stability and precision, especially in challenging soil conditions or with larger diameter piles.

Benefits of Double Rotary:

Increased productivity
Improved accuracy
Enhanced performance in difficult conditions
Larger diameter capabilities
Despite some misconceptions, double rotary CFA piles are a versatile and effective solution for deep foundation construction. They offer superior efficiency, productivity, and adaptability compared to conventional methods.

Curious about how this technique can benefit your next project? Contact our team today. We're here to help you make informed decisions and support alternative methods that best meet your needs.
