Meet Gaelle Terral from France—our wonderful guest on Making Yourself at Home! 🎙️✨

Thank you Alina (That's me) from Romania and Amna from Pakistan for co-hosting!

Gaëlle arrived in Aotearoa only five weeks ago, taking her biggest leap yet: leaving Europe and following her dreams to New Zealand, with « le soleil dans la tête »—sunshine in her mind. ☀️

Last year, she celebrated turning 30 by making one of her first big dreams come true—travelling solo to Italy. This year, her curiosity and courage brought her all the way to Aotearoa.

Gaëlle explores the world through human connections, shared experiences, deep conversations and simple moments filled with joy, authenticity, spontaneity, silence and smiles. 🌿

She is passionate about cultures, foreign languages and art in all its forms—especially painting, writing, dancing, music and photography. She believes in humanity, the strength of femininity, and the courage to embrace all our emotions, including the deepest ones.

Gaëlle is at the beginning of a new chapter—one guided by her dreams, a deeper connection with who she truly is, and what she hopes to leave in the hearts of the people she meets. 💛

In this episode, Alina (That's me) from Romania and ClaRa Del BosQue from Spain share their personal journeys of home, belonging and living far from the countries where they grew up - .

Clara talks about travelling home from Wellington to New Plymouth and the special feeling she gets when Mount Taranaki comes into view—that moment when her heart says, “I’m home.” ❤️

Alina is also preparing to return to Romania, where she will reconnect with her mum, family and roots. In October, she will also be part of two meaningful retreats in Slovenia and Bucharest, exploring connection, authenticity and coming home to ourselves.

Together, they reflect on what it means to move to another country and create a new life. New Zealand feels like home, but Romania will always be home for Alina, just as Spain remains home for Clara. Maybe home doesn’t have to be only one place—it can live in different countries, relationships, memories and parts of ourselves. 🌍

Today at ARTFM listen the story of Kate Lucio, Miss Taranaki Philippines 2026! 👑

Kate is a nursing student at WITT and will proudly represent the Taranaki Filipino Society Inc. at the Miss Philippines New Zealand 2026 competition in Wellington—an annual celebration that brings Filipinos from across New Zealand together.

In this episode, we get to know Kate, hear about her journey and learn how she is preparing for the national competition over Labour Weekend. Kate will also share a preview of her special performance for the event.

A fundraising and raffle night will be held on 12 September at St Joseph’s Church to support Kate on her journey. During the evening, she will be crowned by Miss Taranaki Philippines 2024.

Join us in getting to know her and supporting her exciting journey! More details about the fundraising evening will be shared soon.

Olena holds a Ukrainian passport, was born in Russia, has a Russian mother and a Korean father—and, as she humorously says, this makes her “a perfect Kiwi!”

Based in Taranaki, Olena is a creative communicator, social media strategist, educator, public speaker, radio host at The MOST FM and stand-up comedian @ House of Laughs . Through her business, Olena Williams Media, she helps small businesses bring their brands to life through social media storytelling and practical marketing.

She is also a food blogger and ethnic cooking specialist who loves bringing people and cultures together through food, conversations and community events. With a life journey spanning Siberia, Ukraine and Aotearoa, Olena brings creativity, curiosity, business experience and a wonderful sense of humour to everything she does.

🌎 From Colombia to New Zealand

It was wonderful to welcome Veronica as our guest on Making Yourself at Home at ARTFM

Veronica is originally from Colombia and has been married to a Kiwi for 13 years. Together, they have two children, aged 15 and 10.

Veronica and her husband first met when she came to New Zealand in 2009 on a university exchange. He was the person sitting beside her in her very first class—and the rest is history! 😊

After living in Colombia for 13 years, the family moved to New Zealand in 2023, fulfilling their long-held dream of raising their children here.

He shares how this powerful experience impacted him—from the emotions that arose and the compassion he experienced, to the nourishing food and the feeling of belonging to a worldwide community supported by dedicated volunteers.

🎙️ Meet Our Guest on ART FM – Belinda

This week, we welcome Belinda, originally from Raglan, who has recently moved to New Plymouth and is finding her place within our wonderful community.

Belinda talks about navigating change and what helps her feel at home in a new place. One special way she is creating a sense of belonging is through her vegetable garden, where she has planted seeds she brought from Raglan—a beautiful reminder that we can carry a little piece of home wherever we go. 🌱

When Belinda was only six months old, her family moved to Newman, a remote town in Western Australia, where they lived for ten years. She grew up surrounded by the striking desert landscape, with snakes and spiders nearby, and also had the opportunity to meet and connect with local Aboriginal people.

Moving from the Australian desert to New Zealand was a significant change. Today, Belinda loves being close to the ocean, enjoys surfing, and feels warmly welcomed by New Plymouth’s surfing community. 🌊

Belinda also offers inclusive movement classes every Wednesday at the Fitzroy Surf Life Saving Club:

🕤 9:30am – Nia Move to Heal
A fun, low-impact Nia dance class using beautiful music and guided movement to support balance, mobility, strength, and the brain–body connection. No experience is needed.

🕚 11:00am – FREEDOM DANCE
A joyful movement class for neurodiverse adults, including people living with Parkinson’s, recovering from a stroke, or experiencing early-onset dementia. Through music, rhythm, and gentle choreography, the class supports connection and wellbeing in a caring and inclusive environment.

💛 $10 per person, per class.

On the second Wednesday of every month, Belinda also hosts a free social catch-up group:

For neurodiverse people and their support person—free entry.
