Aluminium cans are one of the easiest things to recycle, and one of the worst to waste. They don’t break down quickly in landfill, but when recycled, they can be reused again and again without losing quality. Recycling aluminium also uses far less energy than making it from scratch, which is better for everyone in the long run.

A small act, recycling your cans instead of binning them, can have a bigger impact than you think ♻️

Floc, what is it, and why should you care?

When a car reaches the end of its life, it is stripped, shredded, and sorted. But not everything makes it into the recycling pile. What is left behind is called floc, a mix of dust, foam, plastic, fabric, and other non-recyclable materials separated out after processing.

It is a reminder that not everything can be recycled. At Global Metal Solutions, we do everything we can to recover valuable materials and reduce waste, but floc shows why mindful consumption matters.The less that goes to landfill, the better for all of us.

Our partnership with Echo is a strong example of how technical collaboration can drive better outcomes for complex waste systems. Dear suppliers and followers,

Yesterday at 4:30 PM, while cleaning the yard, we experienced a flame-up incident. Today, we’re back in action and we’ve taken the time to assess, reset, and ensure everything is safe to continue operations. Our team is all good, and we’re as committed as ever to responsible metal recycling.

We are grateful to Fire and Emergency NZ for their swift response in protecting both our team and our specialised shredding and recycling equipment. Global Metal Solutions Limited is resuming operations and remains committed to responsible metal recycling and waste separation—constantly improving our processes to enhance safety, efficiency, and environmental outcomes.

🚒 Supporting Our Local Heroes 🚒

Last week, the Waitara and New Plymouth Fire Department held a rescue training session at our GMS New Plymouth yard. Global Metal Solutions has proudly supported the Waitara Fire Department, and we're excited to welcome the New Plymouth team to these vital training sessions as well.

These sessions focus on car extrication techniques, traffic control training, and even an introduction to the turf-a-winch for tipping vehicles. To make the training as realistic as possible, our GMS team uses excavators to simulate real-life damage to the cars.

We’re especially proud of Craig Zimmerman, a long-time GMS employee, for his achievements and the contributions he makes to our community as a member of the Waitara Voluntary Fire Service. Craig, along with Matthew Zimmerman—who serves as a training officer—leads these sessions, joined by national trainer Sean Woller from the New Plymouth Fire Department.

It’s inspiring to see how we can support our communities in unique and impactful ways. A huge thank you to these teams for keeping our whānau safe! 🙌
