Kāpiti Maths and Physics Tutoring Mathematics and Physics Tutoring – Y9 to Y13 students, or tertiary students (if University only first year) in Kāpiti

18/08/2026

Hi everyone,

There were glimpses of spring and then back to winter – at least it is lighter in the evenings. I hope everyone is keeping well though I know the ‘flu is circulating (one sign is tutoring being cancelled because of it).

Belated congratulations to those students who passed all or some of their Numeracy and Literacy co-requisites. If your student still needs tutoring in Numeracy or Literacy for the upcoming co-requisites I am fully booked in the afternoons and evenings for Term 3 except for Friday at 5 pm or on Saturday. As co-requisites are supposed to be held 8-18 September (NZQA website) there are really only 2-3 weeks left for tutoring for them depending on whether the student is at PC or KC.

Looking ahead I expect to have some afternoon and evening sessions come free after the co-requisites are completed. However there are sessions available between 8.30 am and 2 pm Monday to Friday for Year 13, Tertiary and other students who can attend tutoring during the day (Y13 will depend on available study periods). If you make contact then we can work out a suitable time. Tutoring can be in-person or online.

As a reminder I am tutoring Mathematics Y9-13 including Calculus and Statistics, Physics Y12-Y13, and Numeracy and Literacy. If you think your student could benefit from some individual tutoring, please send me a message to [email protected], using Messenger from this page (for Messenger you need to initiate the contact from the page), or message by text/SMS or WhatsApp, M: (027) 571 6042.

Thanks
Mark

Hi everyone,

the weather hasn’t been the best for the holidays, but wherever you are for Matariki have a safe and enjoyable weekend, a time for remembrance and reflection.

I am available for tutoring in the second week of the school holidays (Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July) for students wanting to catch up, begin revision for Derived Grade Exams, or prepare for the Literacy and Numeracy exams in mid-September.

Looking ahead, the results for Numeracy and Literacy-Writing are due out on 20 July, first day of term. For Term 3 I am currently available for regular tutoring after school on Friday at 3.40 and 5 pm only, the other days are fully booked. I also have evening sessions available on Tuesday and Wednesday. If a student is available for tutoring during school time then there is opportunity for tutoring during the day (suits those students who have a study period next to a break).

If you would like to discuss tutoring in Maths or Physics, please contact me by email at [email protected], using Messenger from this page (for Messenger you need to initiate the contact from the page), or message by text/SMS or WhatsApp, M: 027 571 6042

Thanks
Mark

Hi everyone,
with winter colds starting to do the rounds I unexpectedly have tomorrow (Thursday 28 May) at 8.45 am available for tutoring before school for someone wanting extra tutoring. I can probably take the student to school as well at the end.

Please note that when a student is not well enough to go to school but feels well enough for tutoring I can tutor online – as one local student discovered worked successfully on Tuesday when wanting to continue regular tutoring though they were not well enough for school. I have several students that I only tutor online and this seems to work well.

Also, with a teacher-only day at PC on Friday, and a public holiday on Monday, tutoring times are available all day on Friday and Monday for students wanting some extra tutoring or to try tutoring in Maths or Physics. Tutoring can be in person or online.

Looking ahead my afternoons after school are fairly full. I have Thursday at 3.40 pm available for regular tutoring and Friday at 3.40 pm available on alternate weeks. I also have two evening sessions available on Tuesday and Wednesday. I do tutor Saturday – just contact me to discuss times.

For Year 13 students and others who can make morning or early afternoon during the week there is opportunity for tutoring most week days but since it will need to fit with the student’s timetable it is best to contact to discuss.

If you would like tutoring please send me a message to [email protected], using Messenger from this page (for Messenger you need to initiate the contact from the page), or message by text/SMS or WhatsApp, M: (027) 571 6042.

Thanks
Mark

School holidays, and I hope you had a good Easter, enjoying the mild and sunny weather this weekend in Kāpiti. The school holidays are a suitable time to catch up with a topic or a subject at a time that is more convenient. I am available both weeks of the school holidays in the morning or afternoon for tutoring, either some extra tutoring or regular tutoring at the normal time. For those attempting the Numeracy and Literacy co-requisites in Term 2 it can also be a suitable time to do some extra work towards these. If you would like tutoring over the next two weeks please send me a message to [email protected], using Messenger from this page (for Messenger you need to initiate the contact from the page), or message by text/SMS or WhatsApp, M: (027) 571 6042.

Looking ahead to Term 2 the afternoon sessions I have available are Tuesday and Friday at 5 pm, and Thursday and Friday at 3.40 pm. Tutoring in the weekday mornings, evenings (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday available) and Saturday are by arrangement to fit schedules as needed

Looking further ahead students in Y12 and Y13 could be reflecting on the term gone and revising ahead of the end of the year before everything gets forgotten. They need to enjoy some downtime from study as well.

From my wife Angela, note that I am available both weeks of the school holidays.

Week 7 of Term 1 and I am available to tutor Monday to Friday mornings and afternoons and Saturday morning and other times by arrangement (e.g. evenings). Sessions are normally one hour. The morning sessions during the week are suitable for Year 13 students during one of their study periods. Sessions after school are still available either Friday 3.40 pm or Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 5 pm, and 7.30 pm most evenings if that works better. Tutoring is normally face-to-face but I am also doing more tutoring online with students from Wellington and Auckland.

With school holidays coming up in April I am available mornings and afternoons both weeks of the holidays for tutoring if you require some extra tutoring or want to continue with regular tutoring at a different time for the holidays.

As a reminder I can tutor Mathematics Y9-13 including Calculus and Statistics, Physics Y12-Y13, and Numeracy and Literacy. I can consider other subjects depending on the level and sometimes a student will ask help in the other subjects anyway during the tutorials. If you think your student could benefit from some individual tutoring, please send me a message to [email protected], using Messenger from this page (for Messenger you need to initiate the contact from the page), or message by text/SMS or WhatsApp, M: (027) 571 6042.

Hope that the studies and assessments are going well!

Term 1 begins next week and I am available for one-on-one tutoring of secondary school and tertiary students with the start of the academic year. I am available to tutor Monday to Friday morning, afternoon and evening and Saturday morning and other times by arrangement. Sessions are normally one hour. The morning sessions during the week are suitable for Year 13 students during one of their study periods although Thursday at 8.45 am is suitable for the late start at KC and PC. Sessions after school are still available either Friday 3.40 pm or Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 5 pm, and about 7.30 pm every evening, or Thursday at 8.45 am if you can fit it in with the late start. Tutoring is normally face-to-face but it can be online if required.

As a reminder I can tutor Mathematics Y9-13 including Calculus and some Statistics, Physics Y12-Y13, and Numeracy and Literacy. I can consider other subjects depending on the level and sometimes a student will ask for help in the other subjects anyway during the tutorials. If you think your student could benefit from some individual tutoring, please send me a message to [email protected], using Messenger from this page (for Messenger you need to initiate the contact from the page), or message by text/SMS or WhatsApp, M: 027 571 6042

Happy New Year everyone. With the festive season over I am available to tutor secondary school and tertiary students over their summer holidays. Sessions at the moment can be casual or regular – it might be that tutoring is needed to revise what was learnt in 2025, or to prepare for 2026, for example in Literacy and Numeracy or to get a head start in Calculus or Physics.

Besides Mathematics and Physics my past experience suggests that I can probably help with understanding some software tools such as word processing, spread sheets and presentations, or even just e-mail. These areas might be more applicable to adults wanting some guidance.

Looking at Mathematics for each year group it tends to repeat the same concepts each time adding more depth to what was done the previous year. Is Mathematics a language – it meets many criteria for a language but perhaps not the criterion of being spoken (though this is debated). My suggestion is that practicing the language will help with understanding of it.

If you want to arrange tutoring please contact me by direct message or WhatsApp.

Note NCEA Examination results will be released on Wednesday 14 January.

A student asked me the other week if we had a holiday and the answer is “not really.” But tutoring is definitely over for 2025 with Christmas tomorrow.

My suggestion to many students has been to read for pleasure – looking at the research there are a number of benefits that come with reading for pleasure, particularly reading fiction in printed form, not digital. Benefits can include increased confidence in reading and mathematics, enhanced reading proficiency, better learning outcomes and increased language skills, and social and emotional benefits (it is not shown that reading causes these, just correlated with). So, encourage the kids to read!

Finally, best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2026 to everyone and many thanks to the parents and students who came for tutoring in 2025, it has been a pleasure to meet you and help you with your learning.

Cheers
Mark

Secondary school exams are well underway and finish on the 28 November. Many students are finished with tutoring for the year as their exams are done (or done in the subjects I tutor), until they start again in Term 1. This means that there are sessions of tutoring, either casual or on a regular basis that are available until the end of the term/year. Likely these suit Year 9 and 10 students who want to do some Numeracy or Literacy revision, or some Year 8 students wanting to get a head start on going to college. Tutoring is also available over the summer holidays. Please contact me if you are interested. Thanks, Mark
