With the 2025 Ryder Cup kicking off this weekend at Bethpage Black in New York, I wanted to share a throwback to the 2023 tournament at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. Our first handcrafted gorse golf tees made by Vaughan Hemara, a local Hokianga potter and artist, found their way onto the fairways just outside Rome, thanks to the incredible support of Owen Eastwood. This was a meaningful step that continues to shape our journey. I'm a long time yellow and blue supporter so I'm sending positive energy to Team Europe all the way from Aotearoa (New Zealand). πŸ©΅πŸ’›

This 6-year-old is a legend. Billie, you obviously have a big heart. Your efforts are not only helping to keep our communities clean but you're also inspiring others to take action. Sometimes the smallest voices create the biggest change. It's also very cool to see other communities banding together around this kaupapa.

Billie Cramer, 6, led a clean-up in Kaikohe with her family.

This article on gorse biocontrol is an interesting read. It shows that current gorse biocontrol agents are largely struggling to make a significant impact in most situations. It’s clear this isn’t a β€œquick fix option. What it does highlight though, is the opportunity to utilise gorse by turning it into high-value products. The challenge of gorse continues, but every move toward smarter, sustainable solutions will help make a productive difference.

Gorse biocontrol began in the 1930s with the release of the gorse seed weevil, which was intended to reduce the spread of gorse but not affect its use as a hedging plant.
