More wild weather in our Region !

KCTM Callout Crew heading to Taumaranui this time.

Stay safe KCTM team !

You may have heard the thunder already - a thunderstorm watch has been extended to our district.

The details:
An active line of heavy showers and thunderstorms is expected to move across the upper North Island this afternoon and evening.

There is a moderate risk that some of these thunderstorms may become SEVERE with rainfall intensities of 25 to 40 mm/h, hail 10 to 20mm in diameter and strong wind gusts about Auckland, Waikato and now extending down in to Waitomo and northern Taumarunui.

Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low- lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain. Large hail can cause significant damage to crops, orchards, vines, glasshouses and vehicles, as well as make driving conditions hazardous. Wind gusts of this strength can cause some structural damage, including trees and power lines, and may make driving hazardous.

Stay safe.

We'll pause all roadworks on state highways for the Christmas and New Year period, with roadworkers shutting down sites from midday Friday 19 December. They'll be back working from Monday 5 January 2026.

They have a big summer ahead of them – January and February tend to be our biggest months for road rebuilding and resealing, as we make the most of the warm, dry weather.

Thank you to every roadworker across the country – we love your work. Here’s to a safe and merry Christmas / New Year period across the state highways.

When you see roadworkers out on the road, travel safely through their worksites, follow signage and any instructions you receive, and give them a wave to say thanks for their tremendous work. Remember to keep your eyes on the road while you're travelling through worksites this summer.

E Stop Lights (Traffic Lights )

Why do we use them ????

* Keeps workers safe being away from the live lane
* Keeps workers away from the elements of heat and rain. Alot of these you can operate up to 400m away
* Safer and better visibility for the traffic at night

Safety first for our team !

We've had the pleasure of working alongside our friend Warren Turner on various networks for many years. Hes also been a big supporter of KCT often sharing who we are on his platform. Congratulations Warren on achieving the Waka Kotahi worker of the week !!!! You truly are inspiring for others with so much positivity. Just keep doing what your doing ✨️ πŸ‘Œ

This week’s Roadworker of the Week is Warren, a Site Traffic Management Specialist for Inframax based in the Ruapehu District.

Warren leads the set-up, monitoring, and pack-down of temporary traffic management (TTM) sites, ensuring the right number of cones and signs are present to provide a safe worksite while keeping people moving. His role requires him to have good relationships, working well with the team that's completing physical works within his worksite. He ensures they all stay safe while the job gets done.

On any given day requirements can change depending on a variety of factors such as weather or progress on site. Warren takes this all in his stride, keeping a positive attitude and believing that no matte what happens the most important thing is people get to go home safe at the end of the day.

Warren has worked hard while at Inframax, embracing training opportunities that have come his way, enabling him to learn skills that help him with both his work and his home lives.

Nominated by his manager Jason, Warren is described as an all-round decent bloke who makes his team proud every day, being a living and breathing example of safety to his team mates and the general public.

Thanks to Warren and the team for keeping everyone safe on the roads. When you see roadworkers out on the road, travel safely through their worksites, follow signage and any instructions you receive from workers on site, and give them a wave to say thanks for their tremendous work.
