Celebrating Service, Commitment & Community

WestReef are proud to acknowledge Brett Muir, from of our 3-Waters team, who has recently reached an amazing 25 years of service with Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ). Brett currently serves with the Westport Fire Brigade and this outstanding milestone is a true testament to his dedication to keeping the Buller community safe.

Brett was joined at a recent Gold Star function celebrating his achievement by fellow Westport Fire Brigade and WestReef team members Alan Kennedy, Shane Kennedy and Ricky Franklin. Together these men have collectively clocked up an incredible 115 years of service with FENZ. Also joining the celebration was Sharon Roche – Buller Holdings CEO and member of the Charleston Fire Brigade.

At WestReef and across the wider BHL Group, we are proud to support our people who go above and beyond through their commitment to serving our community.

WestReef is once again proud to sponsor the Buller Gorge Marathon, which will see runners take off through the stunning Buller Gorge on 14 February.
The BGM is a true community event, made possible through the support of sponsors and volunteers who help deliver a safe and well-run day. WestReef is pleased to support the event through traffic management, including a temporary closure of the gorge (from the Crossroads to the Inangahua turnoff) between 8.00am and 10.30am on Saturday to ensure runner safety.
We encourage road users to plan ahead and enjoy being part of this special community occasion.

Alborn Skink fence completed 🦎

The WestReef/Rotary Westport Christmas Parade was a great way to celebrate the festive season on Saturday. WestReef was pleased to support the event by sponsoring traffic management, prizes for the floats, and advertising.
Our team and trucks also joined the parade, helping carry some of the fantastic floats along the route. Well done to all the float winners! 🚛✨

2025 Buller Holdings & WestReef Services Scholarship winners 🎉

As a part of our continued commitment to the Buller community, Buller Holdings and WestReef Services have established scholarships to support recipients in achieving their tertiary education goals and qualifications.

We are excited to announce the 2025 scholarship winners, Zabeel Scanlon and Ella Bird.

Zabeel is the recipient of the Buller Holdings Scholarship, supporting her forthcoming studies in a Bachelor of Sport in 2026.
Ella is the recipient of the WestReef Services Scholarship, as she prepares to pursue a Bachelor of Construction (Quantity Surveying) in 2026.

We received many exceptional applications for both scholarships. Zabeel and Ella truly stood out for their passion, hard work, and outstanding accomplishments. We wish them all the very best for the next stage of their educational journey!

Doing a last push for the WestReef Whisker Warriors!

I reckon exposing some of these baby-soft chins to the light of day is a worth a donation on its own! 🤣
The guys are raising funds for Movember – supporting prostate and testicular cancer research, and mental health for the dads, husbands, partners, brothers, sons and mates in our lives. Great progress at Alborn Skink site! 🦎
The WestReef Enviro Projects team is making fantastic progress on constructing the 718-metre long predator proof fence at Reefton.
Discovered in the 1990s, the Alborn skink has a very small and vulnerable population (just 30!) that was already in a critical state when they were discovered. This new fence - being built for the Department of Conservation - will protect a five-hectare area of habitat from predators such as rats, mice and stoats.
Once complete, the protected area will provide a safe habitat for the Albon skinks, that will assist in stopping their decline and support recovery efforts for this critically endangered species.

And then it is finished! All ready for the Rocky Point Trail Run this Saturday!
