ExxonMobil confirmed an October price increase of 5 US cents per pound for all its polyethylene (PE) resins and announced a further 5 cents per pound for November, according to a customer letter reviewed by Platts on October 15, 2026.

The announcement applies to ExxonMobil's resins. Prices from other producers and origins may move differently. Before placing your next PE order, confirm the grade, how long the quotation is valid, and when the supplier can ship to your destination.

An operational disruption at Formosa's Point Comfort facility puts affected PE orders in focus.

According to the company statement shared with us, Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A. has declared force majeure on select polyethylene products, effective October 29, 2026, following an operational incident and an unscheduled shutdown of affected production assets.

Formosa says it is assessing the operational and supply impacts while working to safely restore normal operations. The statement does not specify affected grades or a restart date.

For buyers, the immediate priority is to confirm whether their grades and orders are affected and review shipment timing.
