: Prime Minister, James Marape yesterday opened the new Tabubil–Telefomin Highway.
Measured 83 kilometers, it is the first road to connect Telefomin District in West Sepik to Western's Tabubil.
The project was funded through the Connect PNG program and the Ok Tedi Mining Ltd Tax Credit Scheme.
For many years, Telefomin was cut off. People could only travel by air or by walking long distances.
Thousands of people came to celebrate the opening yesterday. Many said it was a dream come true.
In a statement, Mr Marape said the road is more than gravel and bitumen.
It will bring schools, hospitals, markets, electricity, internet, and business.
He said no child, no village, and no province should be left behind.
He told the people that roads must also bring economic activity.
"Farmers, guesthouses, and small businesses can now grow."
He announced that in 2026 a rural credit policy will begin. This will help landowners register their land and get loans.
The Prime Minister praised Western Governor Taboi Awi Yoto and West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou. He said good leaders use resources wisely and change people’s lives.
He also spoke to young people.
PM Marape urged them to stay away from drugs and alcohol. He said the new opportunities are for them.
Mr Marape called the Tabubil–Telefomin Highway a road of hope.
He said it is a promise that government services will reach every citizen.
