Today, we were delighted to welcome students from Tuhava International Primary School to our Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF).

The students were eager to learn about sustainable water and waste management practices and enjoyed an informative site tour, gaining firsthand insight into how waste is managed, treated, and disposed of responsibly.

A key part of advancing waste management in Papua New Guinea is educating and inspiring young people to care for the environment. Simple actions, such as placing rubbish in the correct bin, can have a lasting positive impact on our communities and ecosystems.

Every small action contributes to cleaner communities, healthier rivers and coastlines, and a more sustainable future for all. By teaching the importance of responsible waste disposal today, we are helping to build a cleaner, greener PNG for tomorrow.

From interactive awareness sessions and engaging Q&As to skit performances and discussions about our upcoming Resource Recovery Centre, students enthusiastically embraced the importance of protecting our environment and taking action in their schools, homes, and communities.

To turn awareness into action, we also provided bin liners and gloves to support school clean-up activities and encourage environmental responsibility beyond the classroom.

We are currently at the Port Moresby Nature Park, alongside industry leaders, conservation partners, and the wider community to celebrate a significant milestone: 10 years of biodiversity partnership in the PNG LNG Project.

This yearโ€™s theme, "๐‘จ๐’„๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’๐’๐’„๐’‚๐’๐’๐’š ๐’‡๐’๐’“ ๐’ˆ๐’๐’๐’ƒ๐’‚๐’ ๐’Š๐’Ž๐’‘๐’‚๐’„๐’•", resonates deeply with our core mission. As Papua New Guinea advances its environmental policies and circular economy frameworks, meaningful collaboration between Government, Private Sector, and Development Partners will be essential to creating lasting environmental impact.

Speaking on Marine Pollution and Waste Management, our Managing Director, Kori Chan delivered a presentation titled: โ€œ๐‘ญ๐’“๐’๐’Ž ๐‘ณ๐’†๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’„๐’š ๐‘ต๐’†๐’ˆ๐’๐’†๐’„๐’• ๐’•๐’ ๐‘ถ๐’„๐’†๐’‚๐’ ๐‘ท๐’“๐’๐’•๐’†๐’„๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’: ๐‘ฉ๐’–๐’Š๐’๐’…๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ท๐‘ต๐‘ฎโ€™๐’” ๐‘พ๐’‚๐’”๐’•๐’† ๐‘ฐ๐’๐’‡๐’“๐’‚๐’”๐’•๐’“๐’–๐’„๐’•๐’–๐’“๐’†.โ€
The message was clear - sustainable ocean governance is hollow without a fundamental shift in how we manage land-based waste. Every river system acts as a conveyor belt carrying mismanaged plastic and industrial waste straight into our seas. To combat both visible plastic pollution and the silent threat of uncontrolled leachate, we must build robust circular economy inspired infrastructure before waste ever reaches the water.

We can no longer afford to wait through years of policy discussions alone. Government, the private sector and Development Partners must work together now to move from awareness to action.

TWM Group are pleased to have participated in this important dialogue and commends the organising committee of the Melanesian Ocean Summit for hosting an excellent event. TWM Group proudly launched its support for the Black Thursday Campaign through our partnership with the Incentive Fund โ€“ PNG AUS Partnership - standing together to help end Gender-Based Violence, Family Violence, and Sorcery Accusation Related Violence.
